I disagree with the bishop based on science. No human female has ever given birth to a non human offspring. At some point the entity in a woman’s body becomes human, absent trauma, disease, dehydration, or malnutrition. We cannot scientifically know when that happens. But we who hold abortion wrong simply say that nature must take its course. It is those who favor abortion who are intervening. They are picking a time that they cannot know is the right time to intervene.

Obviously an unborn child is a human from the moment of conception, it is not non-human or un-human only to become human at some later point.

Some of these humans die, that is unavoidable. There are miscarriages, there are ectopic pregnancies, there are still births. My mother once told me that many pregnancies end in miscarriage that is never detected because it occurs so early in the pregnancy, but I don’t know if that is accurate. But no matter at what stage that death occurs the being who dies is human.

Abortion is the willful killing of a human being, no matter at what point that occurs. If this is done for a reason other than the life of the mother, to me it is a big fat sin, even if it’s legal.
