MARY WED |
You’re not going to try to catch the bride’s bouquet, are you?
Did they do that back then?.................
Beautiful Renditions.
Thanks-——
Mazel Tov!
If anyone can show just cause why they should not be joined in holy macaroni, let him speak now or forever hold his peace....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
So glad you like it.
Good Morning Dan, and happy Friday to all who love great artworks.
Wow, there are so many great works here- some from artists we’ve seen here before.
I was surprised at the similarities between #11 Perugino and #20 Rafael. Is this an actual building, which one (or both artists) altered its appearance? What is this building’s significance?
OK, now I’ve found that Raphael was Perugino’s apprentice. Maybe the scene comes from Florence.
Thank you Dan!
The perspective is interesting as well: the viewer is right up front, almost a party to the ceremony. Mary’s subtle pregnancy (in contrast, Joseph looks a bit brutish, but I think Strigel is putting the profile of Emperor Maximillian on Joseph there, you know, to curry further favor).
Note: over 73% of these paintings/sculptures/windows show Joseph with a flowering stick, or wand. Last year, you mentioned it might be like Aaron’s blooming rod, and the rod in Joseph’s hand was a cultural symbol of ‘availability’, which the Holy Spirit caused the right candidate’s to bloom…but you can guess my point, right?
Over 73%? What? Was there a meeting? A conference call? Spanning centuries and continents, where all agreed to use the same symbolism?
Yeah right. NO. Therefore: God.
Has to be. No other possible explanation.
Great observations; this adds to the discussion- thanks.
I like your research, Leon!
Thank you Dan; your links make it easy.
I like your conclusion: Never put it past God to have arranged things.
Wonderful as always. Thank you.
Together, we can express appreciation to our Lord for providing us with so rich an array of blessings:
Scripture,

this enabling forum,
glorious freedom to comment,
inspired and congenial fellow commenters....
Good Morning, Dan. :-)
