the line drawing
clean and elegant
good morning!
OK
It stands out from the rest by contrast. I try to avoid posting an endless procession of look-alikes.
DogFish,,,Yuppers!
.
Jonah really left
His bark-—
I meant Mark.
The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him, “What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?”Why didn't he just jump?“Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.”
Why force others to think they had murdered him?
Good Morning, Dan. :-)
Father Mapple’s Sermon on Jonah:
(from Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick”)
(Herman was not a Theologian but he sure could spin a yarn)
Hard to beat traditional Japanese art for elegance and simplicity.
Just guessing: Them ejecting him demonstrated, proved, their separation from him, and thus hopefully from whatever woes attached to him.
Yup. he also had a whole section on whether a whale is a fish, Ismael came to the conclusion that a whale is a fish, despite being an air-breathing warm-blooded mammal.
Good morning! All great depictions of the storm and Jonah. #21 influenced by Hokusai “Great Wave”?
Nu, so Melville wasn’t a Biologist either. LOL.
But, one doesn’t have to be a Biologist to be an author...or a Supreme Court Justice either I guess. :-)
I am partway through and will complete it anon. I note it is quite imaginative, embellishing the basic text.
I finished it a couple of weeks ago, and then started a book by Humberto Eco. I ended up hating the Eco book so much that I tossed it.
I later read that it was Eco’s expressed ambition to make his protagonist the “MOST DISAGREEABLE CHARACTER IN ALL OF LITERATURE”.
he succeeded. :-)
Too true, but Ishmael’s monologue gives insight to the thinking process that as recently as a few hundred years ago would classify a whale as a fish.
That’s why pretty much everyone would consider a whale a fish in Old Testament times.
Good Morning Dan, and good morning to all.
One of the best Bible stories, and certainly relevant today. Thank you.
Dan, RE: #24 - I love the sailor on the left, and I can hear him say, “Whew... finally”
