I’ve often wondered if Belshazzar had not called for the Temple utensils, would he have been overthrown.
But the Medes and Persians were already in the city, having gone under the grates over the river, by damming the river upstream so the water level fell...............

I think it was one of those situations which was already a fait accompli where God merely allows Belshazzar to continue being Belshazzar and play it on out--kinda like a 15-1 ballgame where they play the ninth inning anyway.
