The Bible In Paintings 2 ENCOURAGEMENT FOR APPRECIATING AND APPLYING GOD'S MESSAGE |
1st KINGS CHAPTER 17 The ravens brought Elijah bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the LORD came to him: “Go at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food.” So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.” “As surely as the LORD your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.” Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD gives rain on the land.’ ” She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah.

Happy Father’s Day Dan; may you get to visit with your children today. And happy day to all fathers who come here.
Dan, my fantasy is that all visitors who love this ministry could meet at a great art museum. A docent would lead us about, and we could enjoy the art, and praise God together for His goodness.
Thank you Dan, for these postings, and for God’s Word which brings this art to life.

Thank you kindly, Leon.
You know, your fantasy actually could happen in heaven. I join with you in praying for it.

Great #1 -
Bernardo Strozzi, #15, early 16th c. monk greatly influenced by Caravaggio. He was given permission to leave the monastery in Genoa in order to support his sick mother and his sister with his painting. At his mother’s death, he refused to return to the monastery and fled to Venice.
#21 by van Dijck, Dutch painter influenced by Rembrandt. I like his work very much.
Of course the stained glass windows! Always!
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, DAN!

A Happy Father’s Day to you Dan!
I woke up, went downstairs and made pancakes for my wife and daughter, exchanged Happy Father’s Day texts with my brother, and my son-in-law’s Dad ( by my other daughter), and I also wished our Heavenly Father one as well.
I know He’s probably not pleased with the way things are going, but I hope He hears some of us, anyway.
Happy Father’s Day, Lord!

Pete, "things are going" exactly as He expects and permits, leading inexorably very soon now to the climax. Happy Father’s Day to you and Him!
