The Bible In Paintings 2 ENCOURAGEMENT FOR APPRECIATING AND APPLYING GOD'S MESSAGE |
1st KINGS CHAPTER 8 Then King Solomon summoned into his presence at Jerusalem the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes and the chiefs of the Israelite families, to bring up the ark of the LORD’s covenant from Zion, the City of David. When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the ark, and they brought up the ark of the LORD and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred furnishings in it. The priests and Levites carried them up, and King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel that had gathered about him were before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and cattle that they could not be recorded or counted. The priests then brought THE ARK OF THE LORD’S COVENANT to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath THE WINGS OF THE CHERUBIM. The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its carrying poles.

When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the LORD. And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled his temple.

Then the king and all Israel with him offered sacrifices before the LORD. Solomon offered a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to the LORD: twenty-two thousand cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the Israelites dedicated the temple of the LORD.

Well-captured, Leon. No one who was present ever forgot it, I’m sure.

Thanks, Alba. The model was excellent and the photography superb. Gives a very real sense of actually touring it.
Not too sure, though, about the bi-fold doors as the entry into the Holy of Holies....

Well, Pete, Ezra and Nehemiah recount its rebuilding, and Revelation mentions yet a future version.
But I am especially looking forward to visiting the real one in heaven. Howsabout we meet at the front entrance?

Mary-Lou! Happy weekend to you!
Get ready, there's a rumor that a royal personage is due to arrive on Monday, with gifts and retinue alike. We'll need to spiff up our wardrobes--I understand she's planning a three-day stay. Should be quite the spectacle....

I don’t want to cause hate, I just want to know the answer to one question.
Is there any actual paintings or drawings of the Temple from the time of its building? I guess one more, is there a blueprint?
I know the measurements are proscribed by God himself, but was there written plans? It would be amazing to see, being there is not “one stone left upon another”.
The pictures are amazing, and I really enjoyed the audio readings. Even as a young lad, I loved the pictures in my first Bible, which I won by attending church for an entire year. Unfortunately, I misplaced the one inscribed with my name, and had to purchase another.

(Yours is a perfectly reasonable, inoffensive, excellent question. By the way, “blueprinting” is a recent innovation, begun less than two centuries ago.)
Anything written, even just a sketch, would be a priceless artifact. Obviously, extensive architectural and engineering plans, elevations and sections were indeed produced. But preserving paper for three millennia would be quite a challenge.
Still, God can do anything. Perhaps Qumran’s caves will yet yield Temple drawings. But if any remain, it certainly isn’t common knowledge.
Which leads to the question, why hasn’t God preserved and revealed the plans? Or the Temple and its contents? To me, it seems rather obvious that He wants the focus on His Son, but you may have a different view.
I’ve added you to the Ping List. On average, you can expect about five pings each week. Your first should be on Monday.
Dan

The First Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians and the Second Temple was destroyed by the Romans.
Any paintings or drawings would have been on papyrus or animal skins (parchment) and crumbled to dust many centuries ago............
