I appreciate your comments. Truly.
But forgive me if I personally object to music whose lyrics stray from Scripture or that is that has no highs or lows and is therefore lukewarm.
Rev 3:16 “So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”
Ok, we get it.
Your a highly righteous and erudite Christian with no sense of humor who likes to pass judgment on others over a text conversation, trying to divine their dedication to god and the purity of their very soul.
Did I get that about right?
Just because someone writes a worship song with the purest of intentions doesn’t mean its going to be premium work of art or that it might even suck in some cases.
Your log is showing, you might want to look into that.
Seriously, lighten up.
“Jokes are supposed to be funny.”
Indeed. And while I sometimes laugh at Joe Biden I mostly cry.
And he is always a joke.
God Turn It Around (feat. Jon Reddick)
And this one has always been a favorite of mine:
And the fog machines...don’t forget the fog machines.
You left out the bridge ...
It’s a joke, it’s a joke, it’s a joke, you see
It’s a joke, it’s a joke, it’s a joke from me ...
LOL!!!
It is finished isn’t a song. It’s a three minute sermon.
I’ve always been a Petra fan. That’s probably my favorite.
What could be worse than a Picardy 3rd?
CCM = I,vi,IV, V
I understand that “Christian” radio stations use a JPM metric for the songs they play. JPM = “Jesus Per Minute”
These songs turn the Lord’s name into a marketing gimmick. I would love to have radio stations I could listen to in the car with my kids without reservation, but this uncreative dreck is unlistenable. There is so much to express about the joys and sorrows of the human condition it is a shame our only choices are only crass, explicit sexuality on one side and JPMs on the other.
I agree.
An acquaintance of mine is the afternoon drive host for a major market Christian station.
I asked why they never play any older music, just the insipid Jesus is my boyfriend junk. He didn’t have a good answer.
Try the classical music on the far left side of the radio (literally AND figuratively!).
It’s amazing how much sacred music you’ll find there!
Keith Green
He I have no problems with.
Now, if you could encapsulate the joke in skinny jeans, the whole thing would really come to life.
Not confusing them for each other, but may be listening to both. I do listen to groups like Skillet and Sandi Patty. :-) Maybe it is my fault - LOL.
“It is finished isn’t a song. It’s a three minute sermon.”
Ain’t that the truth.
I had that song stuck in my head just yesterday.
Similar; but I called it 7/24 music. 7 words repeated 24 times. Somewhere in between those sets of numbers lies the truth about it. While SOME of the lyrics are worshipful and devotional, the very fact of their numerous repetitions puts them in rebellion against the clear instructions of our Lord Jesus Christ, against it. In a former life, in Japan, in the military, I observed Japanese folk going through their devotions, using vain repetitions! That settles it.
Well played, dfwgator ….get out the Led
