Is there somewhere in Catholic teaching where the laity is given the option of sitting in judgment of their church leadership and deciding for themselves whether it’s of God or not and if they have to obey it or not?

Don’t know and don’t really care.

You want to follow him, you go right ahead. It’s called free will.

As I said before, this isn’t the Middle Ages… and the Inquisition is long dead and gone and has zero power over anyone.
