CHAPTER 37

Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood—two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high. He overlaid it with pure gold, both inside and out, and made a gold molding around it. He cast four gold rings for it and fastened them to its four feet, with two rings on one side and two rings on the other. Then he made poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold. And he inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry it.

He made the atonement cover of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. Then he made two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. He made one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; at the two ends he made them of one piece with the cover. The cherubim had their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim faced each other, looking toward the cover.

10, 14, and 19 are interesting and different - with 10 being quite accurate to the text. Rings at the feet, but the poles spaced further out because of the ‘non-axial’ position. Looks like it would be a more stable carry position with low poles.

Glad you paid attention to the inherent difficulty in carrying with low poles. #10 does seem the most sensible solution.

Why? The low poles would make it wobbly? You never want to support ANYTHING from underneath it. If they tried to carry it on their shoulders, they’d have problems picking it up without it tipping over.

(Plus, it looks like an illustration from a cheap, 1990s web page.)

Some great art, so I don’t mean to be negative, but I found the mix of greatness and cheesiness to be comical.

1, 7 and 8 look like 90’s-style vector art... at least 1 and 8 look like cool 90’s-style vector art; in contrast 2 still looks like computer art, but it’s gorgeously done. 5 looks almost real, but I’m guessing it’s done with computers? I like 2 aesthetically, but the skill in 5 is awesome.

9 and 10 look like low-res illustrations from a 90’s on-line encyclopedia.

I really LIKE 13, except for the attempt to show us what’s inside; THAT aspect looks like it belongs in an 80’s classroom workbook. Which is too bad, because OTHERWISE, I really, really like it.

14 and 19 look like cheap photographs of beautiful, real-world objects; At least 3 and 6 look like nice photos

18 looks like a collage assembled from works from highly disparate media

I’m really split on 12. The rendering of the gold is so good, but it looks like a small, lightweight keepsake box, not the ark of the covenant.

11 and 17 look like 70s dorm room posters. I would hang 11 in my room. I would give 17 to a stoner and hope some day he discovers that’s Christ, not one of the band members from Deep Purple. (After thought: Ian Gilliam from Deep Purple AND Jesus Christ Superstart?)

Its inherent instability would be mitigated somewhat by turning it 90° as in #10, along with limiting its height, to lower its center of gravity, and its weight, to decrease carrying forces.
