Gay? But celibate?
Get out of here!!!!!
Jesus came to deliver you from sin, not allow you to keep your sin.
Furthermore, he stated quite clearly, it is what proceeds out of the heart that defiles the man, not the mouth.
So sin starts with our unholy desires, not our actions.
This is where deliverance comes starts and it starts with our faith our belief in Jesus being able to do just that, deliver us from all sin.
Matthew 19:12
“For there are eunuchs who were born that way; others were made that way by men; and still others live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”
I think, in the past, this was seen very commonly as the path for people who had this “demon”... join the clergy and be celibate as the Bible advises. However, even back in the earliest days of the church there were scandals because many of those who tried to follow that path simply couldn’t resist their urges.
So, my opinion is, if you have these urges and want to be a Christian and celibate, great, more power to you. But maybe leave being a clergyman to someone who isn’t suffering this kind of perverse temptation, because otherwise, the consequences if you fail to live up to your commitment are going to harm the Church instead of just yourself.
Just read a book, Gay Christian,Coles. He came to the conclusion the only way to live a life of Christ with those feelings is celibacy. I understand that.
I don’t know about being in a place of leadership in the church though. I don’t know about rationalizing and bending the Word for their benefit. We used to get high and use I John 1:9 and called Greasy Grace Christians. And that’s what we were.
That scripture is rarely quoted. Jesus speaks to celibacy.
And this preacher speaks of celibacy as well. Or did you fail to notice?
Well, frankly, back then being a eunuch meant something far more than the figurative meaning we attach to it.
Yes, but the apostles didn’t advocate actually becoming a eunuch; in fact that was pretty strenuously denounced as it was defiling one’s body, like any other kind of mutilation. They advocated (for some) to “live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven”, or to take up that lifestyle without actually getting the surgery.
The one who can accept this should accept it.
Those were the words of Jesus, not just the apostles.
Paul’s letter to Timothy explicitly limits who may be an elder or a deacon.
1 Timothy 3: 2 A bishop [elder] then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
1 Timothy 3:12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
Yes I read it. Did you catch my question regarding such predispositions as a pastor? Then again Catholic priests are celibates so I don’t see the problem but I am curious.
Did you catch my question regarding such predispositions as a pastor?
***I don’t see any question in your posts.
I don’t know about rationalizing and bending the Word for their benefit.
***That’s not a question, it’s an assertion. And it’s using typical verbal mechanisms such as starting with “I dunno,” but what you really MEAN is “this is how I look at it”. Your claim is that homosexuals rationalize and bend the Word for their benefit. Yup, they do. And so do perhaps MOST of the people in church leadership, many who have had extramarital sex as if the same concepts don’t apply to them. At any rate, I think I agree with your assertion.
It’s true we’re all struggling. It’s why I didn’t put a question mark on that sentence but it’s still a question in my mind.
It’s why I read this article and that book. I have a bundle of questions. I was a greasy grace Christian for years rationalizing I John 1:9, getting drunk and confessing my sins. I know a little about rationalizing and eventually we( or me) come to the end of ourselves and hopefully realize that greasy grace isn’t the good walk.
From what I’ve read in the bible and what I read of late I think celibacy is the right track. I don’t have any homosexual desires but it’s interesting what their struggles are and it must be really really tough.
I have many more questions than answers.
Yes regarding Timothy and other teachings. I fear we’re deep into the lukewarm church of Laodecia. These days reminds me of the repetition in the books of Judges,”And men did what was right in their own eyes.
