Priest incorrectly performed thousands of baptisms by changing word, making them invalid

The Diocese of Phoenix said 'all of the baptisms he has performed until June 17, 2021, are presumed invalid'

"The issue with using ‘We’ is that it is not the community that baptizes a person, rather, it is Christ, and Him alone, who presides at all of the sacraments, and so it is Christ Jesus who baptizes," Olmsted said.

Wrong.

As circumcision was the sign of old covenant, baptism is a sign of the new covenant and imparts saving grace. While households were baptized. WHOLE. That’s everyone.

And that is what has been taught and practiced long before the sons of Luther thought otherwise. For proof look at the Orthodox who not only baptize but confirm at the same time.

1 Peter 3:21: “Baptism . . . now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

The sacraments are for saving grace. Embrace them.

See Catholic Answers Infant Baptism for more details than I can post here.

repent was the primary verb, baptism was not part of salvation if so Jesus wouldnt have gotten baptized, acts 2 is talking about the proper order, baptism is a good work a work of obedience but water doesnt save you. Only Jesus blood can do that

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

as you read this scripture you see clearly that salvation is not dependent on baptism but rather on our belief in Jesus.

Then how did the thief on on the cross go to heaving? He was not baptized?

Theif on the Cross was promised by Jesus himself from the Cross. In that place the words of Jesus mattered. Similarly, baptism matters because Jesus commanded his disciples to do so.

In both places its because it was what Jesus says that makes it so. The theif was baptized by the words of Jesus who spoke from his Cross, the same Jesus who died on the Cross made baptism a means of salvation in his own death on the cross.

I don't see a problem here.

Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and they asked Peter and the other apostles, “What are we to do, my brothers?” Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit.

Acts 2:37-38.

“catholic baptisms aren’t biblical baptisms anyways. doesn’t mean anything to babies that can’t remember it.”

What are your theological credentials? They’re more substantial than those of two millennia of theologians and philosophers going back to Jesus, the founder of Catholicism?

Actually, parents take the responsibility of baptizing their children to be Catholic. Anyone baptized in the Catholic Church is judged, on the day of judgement, as Catholic.

You can say people can say ‘I’m no longer Catholic’ but it simply doesn’t work that way.

People who receive the sacraments are Catholic.

You apparently have not read your Bible. Try reading Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Then come back to this forum and tell me God is not specific. For example, God gave specific instructions to Noah as to how to build the ark. God did not command Noah to build the ark but to do it as Noah saw fit. Because if God is not specific, a Catholic or an Orthodox priest can buy a bag of potato chips, consecrate them, and declare those chips are the Body of Christ. There is no Biblical precedent for consecration of potato chips. God gave His Chosen People specific instructions. And SPECIFICITY also applies to Christianity. Unfortunately, this is lost on many Christians.

Read your Bible. Don’t cherry pick Scriptures to support your position.

Jesus baptized the entire house of Cornelius. Read the Acts of the Apostles. Did it ever occur to you there were children in his house?

How are you defining “superstition?” Christianity is not superstitious, or at least that is my understanding as a Christian.

All churches have their demons among the teachers and elders, problem is, the unholy catholic church is more prone to their teachers and elders being gay pedophiles than any other christian organization.

I think you need to read the New Testament, particularly John’s Gospel. Read it carefully and return to this forum and tell me that baptism is unnecessary.

You are clearly putting man above G-d. In your view, to achieve salvation one needs man first, after man has given his blessing G-d will then confer his grace. Literally Jesus admonished the Pharisees for that type or reasoning.

Mark

7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

my credentials do not matter, Gods word is my credentials its all that matters.
I believe Gods word-
Romans 3:23- for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
Romans 6:23- For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:8- But God commendeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
Romans 10:13- For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Ephesians 2:8- For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Im glad I am saved! but it wasn’t because of my baptism as a baby it was because I realized I was a sinner in need of salvation and I called on Jesus to save me.

I would think that the Church would try to make sure that Priests were not heretics. This was going on for decades. I worry more about what other lies he spread, than the baptism of these infants.

Baptism of Desire. Do you think that Jesus and the good thief were in a position to come down from their crosses and participate in a baptism?

I have many times, I spent much my life struggling with the baptism question.

I accepted the Berean challenge and searched the scripturas.

They must reconcile to each other and be consistent. The only way to make baptism a required element of salvation is to read scripture in a vacuum and to put man before G-d.

Again, I ask you, how did the thief go to paradise? he was not baptized.
