CHAPTER 1, VERSES 26-28

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

CHAPTER 2:7-8, 15-20

…the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed….

The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”

The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.

Names. Adam was the world's first taxonomist. Assigning all of those names was his first job (that we were told about, anyway).

So what was the “light” that was created on this day?

That first light was the very first creation that was called out, named (that we were told about, anyway):

See all those man-nouns?! That verse is right out of a song, because if she walks by...

She's got a lot of what they call "the most". She mesmerizes every mother's son. She was born to please.

You are quite right about the editorial "we", except: the Hebrew word for "God" used immediately prior, Elohim, is plural. It is always used with a singular verb form, so it is a plural which is functioning as a unity.

The editorial “we” used by royalty really is just pretentiousness, as in they are the entire nation in one…almost like an idolatry. I wouldn’t care to try to defend that on The Day.

As for the paintings…I’m always taken by the simplicity and poignancy of the Michelangelo. His talent is truly incredible. With great talent comes great troubles.
