[Catholic Caucus] Pope Francis Calls EWTN "The Work Of The Devil"
How many remember various sit-coms that featured a manipulative mother/mother-in-law who was always complaining about how close she came to death's door and how no one appreciated her? That's what this recent exchange between the pope and some of his fellow Jesuits calls to mind. In Slovakia last week, a Jesuit priest asked him how he was. The pope replied, "still alive, even though some people wanted me to die". The poor priest got quite the earful. "Drama queen" are the words that come to mind. Did Pope John Paul II carry on like that after he was shot? I don't recall him doing so.
- He railed against EWTN (albeit not by name) for "speaking ill of the pope". He called them the "work of the devil". Funny! I seem to recall him asking "who am I to judge"? Hmm...
- He said of young priests seeking permission to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass, "it is a phenomenon, that indicates we are going backwards"..."This is the evil of this moment - namely, to seek the path in rigidity and clericalism, which are two perversions".
- He complained that "it frightens us to accompany people with sexual diversity", urging the Jesuits to "go forward in pastoral experiences."
So from the last two bullet points, can we gather that he thinks those of us who attend the Traditional Latin Mass are perverts, while sodomites are simply "diverse"? If he thinks that the latter need "accompanying", these "pastoral experiences" better include the Sacrament of Confession for the sake of all involved.
Below I'll post a video of a Traditional Latin Mass that took place two days ago. Fr. Chad Ripperger gave the homily and spoke about Traditionis Custodes. He linked this to modernism, and mentioned that a key feature of modernism is its hatred of the sacred. I regret to say that he nails it when it comes to how the pope is simply railing against the Mass of the Ages at every opportunity. Go to the 33-minute mark where Father's sermon starts. I will say I differ with him when he opines that we should "be silent". St Catherine of Siena lamented such silence, blaming that in part for the condition of the papacy in her day. We have to speak and shed the light so that others aren't led astray. Of course we pray and offer sacrifices, but these alone will not suffice. Ora et labora.

Do you NOT AGREE that it is the devils work to attack the Church? Not just the devils attack the Church, Murph. I would think you know that.
And personally, I think Bergolio, not EWTN, is attacking the Church.

Well done. You managed to demonstrate
(I) that you have to cut an entire sentence in order to change what the “they” is referring to, in order to support this false claim.
(ii) that you need to resort to intimidation and name calling to defend this false claim because the actual quote does not support it.
This is like arguing over whether Trump said “all Mexicans are criminals” (spoiler alert — he didn’t). When you challenge people who make this claim they use carefully edited quotes, name calling and intimidation.

This Pope has an agenda- he is admitting that. And he deserves his criticism like he is freely admitting. He does not seem to care. But he also knows- HE is NOT the Church.Do you believe EWTN has been attacking the church, Murph?
If not, why would Bergoglio mention them in the same paragraph as doing "the works of the devil"?

You have not yet proved your point.
Care to try?
Who is doing the works of the devil besides "a large Catholic television channel that has no hesitation in continually speaking ill of the pope". Who was Bergoglio speaking of, edwinland?

You referred to me as a heretic - by association- in #18.Once again, you bear false witness, Murph. I referred to Bergoglio and Barron as heretics, not you.
Catholics cannot help but being associated with heretics in their lives.
It's another thing, Murph, to promote and defend those heretics.

Who is doing the works of the devil besides "a large Catholic television channel...
Your obfuscating like a guilty 11 year old.
There is no "besides" in this... First, WHO is the EWTN network. Second, WHAT is "Works of the devil". (Which evidence is needed to support that claim... but who could really agree with that statement) Third was gonna be I don't know- but I DO...
because WHY is "attacking the Church".
Pope translater: EWTN is attacking the Church, and that is the work of the devil. The "scandal" is that the Pope is villifying the EWTN peeps as devil workers...
Now we can pretend we're like Steelers fans and easily lost... But this is pretty easy for everyone to read beyond a headline.

From the introduction in the book, The Dictator Pope (2017):
If you speak to the Catholics of Buenos Aires, they will tell you of the miraculous change that has taken over Jorge Mario Bergoglio. Their dour, unsmiling archbishop was turned overnight into the smiling, jolly Pope Francis, the idol of the people with whom he so fully identifies. If you speak to anyone working in the Vatican, they will tell you about the miracle in reverse. When the publicity cameras are off him, Pope Francis turns into a different figure: arrogant, dismissive of people, prodigal of bad language and notorious for furious outbursts of temper which are known to everyone from the cardinals to the chauffeurs.
.........
After nearly five years of his pontificate, Francis is showing that he is not the democratic, liberal ruler that the cardinals thought they were electing in 2013, but a papal tyrant the like of whom has not been seen for many centuries.
Emphasis mine.

when the Church got rid of a living Pope and replaced him with a marxist, socialist...I said bye byePerhaps you should have been an altar boy then you might realize that someone else's sin is no excuse for your own. Our Lord died for you and will ask you on Judgement Day why you left him. Have a good answer ready. The Church has been around for 2000 years, this guy is an example of a bad pope, we get them from time to time. Ignore him and focus on your salvation through Our Lord Jesus Christ.

+++I'm sorry, I left a door open...Re-phrasing:
So... I am not a heretic then, as far as your opinion of me goes?
(And it would be uncharitable of me, not to want your opinion of me.
"Whom do men say that I am?")

I can only imagine what Mother Angelica would have said about the ImPopester. She didn’t put up with fools, especially those who directly refute the teachings of the Catechism.

I always remember her saying she would pray for Patience first thing in the morning... but by 9am she had already lost it !...
Though Pope Fancis referred to her as a "Holy Woman" when she passed - no doubt the Pope's current depreciation for EWTN probably woulda happened a little sooner if Mother Angelica was still with us.

First of all, Bergolio is not the Pope. Benedict XVI is still alive, thus he is the True Pope. Bergolio is the ImPopester. He is also a heretic who has excommunicated himself by his own words and actions. (Pachamama among other things.)

Thanks for the polite response.
BTW I wrote in my post that I was an alter boy. But that is not the reason for my reply.
Re-read my post carefully and you will notice that I did not rebuke God. I believe that God is Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent.
He is not in need of cash nor is he in need of some pompous jerk to speak for him. I is not God that I don’t believe in , it is clergy, various religions and anything else that I learned about God. He sent a messenger to St Francis of Assisi and without getting into the full story, he said that St Francis could no more put the ocean into a hole he had dug than he could understand the Blessed Trinity. Some creep from Argentina is not his word.
Confitior deo omnipotenti.

Who is doing the works of the devil besides "a large Catholic television channel that has no hesitation in continually speaking ill of the pope". Who was Bergoglio speaking of, edwinland? Your question already makes my point, very neatly. Just as you say, Pope Francis was speaking of EWTN when he said that EWTN is broadcasting attacks on the Pope, which attacks are the work of the devil. Here's the full quote:
Pope Francis: “There is, for example, a large Catholic television channel that has no hesitation in continually speaking ill of the pope. I personally deserve attacks and insults because I am a sinner, but THE CHURCH does not deserve them. They are the work of the devil. I have also said this to some of them.”
This highly tendentious blog then changed what the Pope said, making it "Pope Francis Calls EWTN "The Work Of The Devil"
If they said "Pope Francis Says EWTN sometimes does the Work Of The Devil" that would be accurate.
Is that a distinction without a difference? Maybe to non-Catholics it appears so, but ask yourself this question: have you ever sinned? Whose work did you do when you sinned? Was it the work of Jesus Christ who you served in your sin? No. In Catholic theology it was the work of the Devil.
So if I put up a headline "Ebb Tide Admits that He is the Work of the Devil" would you similarly defend my headline as being accurate? Because that's the tendentious little clickbait maneuver that this despicable blog just pulled.
