The center’s statement added that the novelty of the coronavirus and its vaccines “leave several medical questions unanswered,” which can impede free and informed consent for some persons.
CHICAGO, Ill. — Amid disagreement among Catholic leaders over whether there is a moral obligation to receive a coronavirus vaccine, board members at the National Catholic Bioethics Center have told CNA that Blase Cardinal Cupich has urged that the center retract its guidance against mandated immunization.
One board member told CNA that Cardinal Cupich has been “leaning hard” on the bishops and some prominent lay board members, but did not elaborate on specific names. The NCBC board members spoke with CNA on the condition they not be identified by name.
The Archdiocese of Chicago did not respond to CNA’s request for comment.
The board members who spoke with CNA said that they would oppose the change they say the cardinal is seeking.

He has no leverage.
Cardinal Cupich...... Another one to not trust. Is he on the take?
Cupich is a Francis cardinal
And one of Bernadine’s boys.
Well, our Church has its tyrants also. And, they are usually the “liberals” and/orDemocrats among us.
Such a misguided understanding! Vaccines protect the individual from covid. They don’t protect the group from sars transmission. They don’t help with herd immunity. Morally, we would be better off letting healthy young people getting natural infection. Why? Because that seems to stop transmission. Are we hearing about reinfection cases? No. We are hearing about vaccine “breakthrough” cases.
Cupich is another anti-science pal of McCarrick.
Another progressive with his head stuck firmly in the days of flat-earth folklore.
“Soupy” has long enjoyed the reputation as the leading American prelate whom conservatives/traditionalists love to hate. He’s invariably on the wrong side of every issue, and is thus a local favorite of Bergoglio.
accines protect the individual from covid
except when they don’t protect. all the new cases are among vaccinated
Cupich needs to realize that the Catholic Church supports freedom, not his forcing people to take the fake vaccine which only treats symptoms and so is not really a vaccine that would cure the coronavirus.
“Vaccines protect the individual from covid.”
I don’t think they do.
