The symbolism of the book of the Apocalypse is very clear - to tell the Christians of 64 AD who were suffering the great tribulation (from 64 AD to 67 AD) by the Sanhedrin, by the Pharisees and by the Roman authorities -- to tell them that their relief was at hand
The symbolism tells them how the whore city - Jerusalem of 67 AD - the city where the Lord was crucified - the city that rode the gentile beast (the Roman empire) -- how Jerusalem would be destroyed in 70 AD
It tells of how the leaders would see Christ coming on the clouds of glory and would judge them and the city of Jerusalem would be destroyed.
The problem is that revelations was written by nearly all accounts in 95 AD and Rome burnt about 64 AD. So it would be easy to make that prophecy since it occurred after the happening that are referred to. This book is meant to be taken symbolically and it represents the end of the world inside of a person and the expansion of spiritual consciousness. For instance does anyone seriously believe the sun, the moon and all of the stars will fall on earth? The cosmic forces represent higher spiritual consciousness and falling to earth means they are falling into the earthly mind and that is what this book is all about.
