One thing most of these painter probably didn’t realize is that there would probably have been HUNDREDS of babies being presented that day! It would have looked like the Santa Clause store scene from “A Christmas Story”!................The line forms in the back, you two!................
Love the Tissot rendering. He seems to be the only one who accurately shows the high steps leading to the altar. Joseph carries the cage with the turtledoves, gift to the Temple. Simeon, holding baby Jesus high, acknowledges the child as the Messiah. I guess the woman with the outstretched arms is the prophetess Anna, rejoicing and thanking God.
