Secularism is a 'religion'... ever try and convert a secularist?
If I have a bone to pick with devout religious believers, it’s that they refuse to admit that their belief is just that - a belief - an opinion.
This 'religious' word is far too broad ... whatever a human places as the most important object of their time and effort / love is their 'god'. I just witness the most fervent acts of worship to secularism this past year..
There is a common social practice in the secular world that leads to friendly discourse: People preface their beliefs with the phrase “In my opinion” or even “In my HUMBLE opinion”. Why is that so hard for Christians to say that - isn’t humility a Christian virtue?
Obviously, you must live in a gated community... The 'social' practices this past year of the secular world were barbarism ... on a mass scale. Give the devil his due. One must by necessity be a student in Christ to even have a low level conversation.
I just got three comments in a row like that - nobody can just state their opinion as an opinion. They have to talk arrogantly as though they have the market cornered on truth, and anyone who doesn’t agree is a lost soul.
IF I quote Scripture, it is impossible to claim it as my own opinion. I would not call you a 'lost soul', I would call you a disinterested soul..
Oh I give up.
Some devout believers are impossible to reason with, precisely because they think faith - not reasoning - is the path to understanding.
True. I like to think of the bible as a history book as none of it is actually the words of god. Example: The ten commandments was the closest interpretation that could be put into our limited human language.
If you read it as a history book it can be extremely interesting. Such as genesis flood which the Burckler crater in the Indian Ocean 5000 years ago likely did create storms and waves of water that likely flooded the area all the way to today Turkey. The Burckler asteroid doesn't lessen the biblical story because only an act of god could have know at that time to build the Ark long before the event.
I've always wondered why people would sacrifice their children to the false Gods such as Moloch for any reason. Which is what the story of Abraham and partly the story of Jesus birth was about. Historically speaking it wasn't all that long ago when massive differential ratio's of male/female at it's peak was 9,000 years ago of 17:1 female to male. This was likely a natural differential. In my opinion they likely didn't understand why god was balancing out the ratios. God creating more men.
