Africans are highly superstitious.......so how they are preached to is often foreign to us here but may make sense to those there.

In the US many do let sin roll off their backs because society has ceased to be a God fearing society. Also the so called “Love everybody” trend isn't Biblical.....rather understanding how we were before we came t o the Lord fr we were also blind.

It’s an eternal lesson.
One I picked up mighty quickly.

“Often times I feel as if pastors do not spend enough time telling the congregation what hell is like.”

For example, our priest this week, when reflecting on us and the man born blind being given “light”, could only say Jesus saves us from “blindness”, not eternal torture in hell. He just could not say it, and never does.

The notion of unending punishment is so out of sync with people’s ordinary sense of justice that it is easily rejected as preposterous. The traditional view of hell is just not Biblical or rational. The punishment for sin is not prison, it’s capital punishment. Hell is a place of destruction, and I think the Bible says this clearly over and over again.
It’s not clear how heaven could ever truly be heaven if it co-exists alongside an eternal hell. How are we to imagine enjoying heaven when we know that fellow human beings — and perhaps former loved ones — are locked in an endless nightmare from which they shall never awake? How are we to imagine God, who is perfect love, enjoying heaven while he yet keeps the damned in existence for the sole purpose of having them experience hopeless pain? This being a vast majority of mankind, BTW.

True, my brother who wrote this runs into a lot of Jehovah witnesses who are leading his countrymen down false trails due to their weineeses to supersticions

Jesus spoke on the subject of hell more than anyone else in scripture,

The story of Lazarus and the rich man was not a parable,

We’re told we have Moses and the Prophets, and today this generation has more access to information and the truth than any other in history, we are without excuse,

The greatest torture in hell will be the flaming fires. 2nd on the list IMHO is hell is the most stupidest, moronic, insane asylum on steroids in the whole universe. Jesus delivered us All from it. To reject him, well-we call that the biggest stupidity ever chosen.

The gospel message is too simple for a lot of people. Jesus died for our sins, he paid the price and in order to spend eternity with him you must believe and repent. You must believe he died and roads again.

Brother Dave Gardner, a comedian with a message in the 1960s, used to ask the difference between a northern Baptist and a Southern Baptist. His answer: the northern Baptist says there ain’t no Hell, and the Southern Baptist says the Hell there ain’t!

There are a lot of things I don’t claim to be able to understand, and the mind of God is one of the big ones.

Absolutely!
Am I worthy?
God thinks so.

I’m pretty sure if there is a God, he doesn’t care whether we believe in him or not - or whether we believe in an afterlife.

If he considered it that important for us to know these things, he would let us know. He would not allow it to remain such a mystery. He would not depend on five thousand year old stories being passed down through the generations, many of them conflicting. He would not leave us guessing.

I have no idea what happens after we die, and I don’t believe other people know either. They may have super strong beliefs, but that is not knowing - even though religious believers often mistake belief for knowledge.

Besides, when believers representing different religions disagree with one another, they tend to insist their version alone is the truth. If they disagree they can’t all be right, and if some are wrong - they could all be wrong. That’s the nature of believing things that can’t be known.

I think the best way to deal with the unknown is not to guess - not to take a leap of faith - just let the mystery be.

One thing I do believe - some behavior is good and some bad. If I try my best to figure out what is good, and try my best to live this life accordingly, I will be a better person.

As for the afterlife - maybe there is one and maybe there isn’t. If I had to guess, I’d guess there isn’t one. But if I’m wrong, I seriously doubt God is the type who would punish me for guessing wrong. That would just be mean to leave us guessing and then punish us for a wrong guess!

And here’s another thing I can say I believe: If there is a god, I doubt he’s mean.

Jesus taught more on hell than in Heaven. He takes it seriously enough He died for us so we dont have to experience it. Following any law will not keep you from Hell. The only way to salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ

Interesting premise. Maybe we are already in Hell?

There is a site that has stories from doctors and nurses who had patients that died and their last words and actions are truly terrifying.
