Agreed. One is left to assume what the author is referencing.
Although I suspect it was this moving of the Bethlehem Star Conjunction out of the earth signs and into Aquarius. Although the author does make note it wasn’t an astrological sign.
So...the reader is left pondering to the reference that the rest of the world missed.

It specifically has to do with the 4th commandment. Look at the language in v7 and compare it to Exodus 20:11
8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
You receive the mark of the beast if you WORSHIP the beast. Those who keep the COMMANDMENTS OF GOD will not receive the mark of the beast as Rev 14:12 shows, because they keep the 7th day Sabbath as the 4th commandment clearly commands of us.
“There is simply no time left.” See Revelation 3:10 then check out Rev 5 ... The Redeemed are in Heaven having been before the Bema Seat and wearing the rewards crowns BEFORE the Lamb opens the first seal of the seven sealed scroll.
Ah, so now you acknowledge there is a mark that one gets on their hand or forehead.
Of course:
On the hand: they go along with worshiping the beast so they can continue to buy and sell.
In the forehead: They know the difference and they do it anyway.

Maybe you meant to say “literal” mark?
Everyone will get a mark. It’s either the mark of the beast or the seal of God. And, they are not literal, physical marks, if that is what you were implying.
They have to be or there’d be no way to control a person’s ability to buy or sell.
How do you control who goes overseas and enters a foreign country? A passport. How do you control who gets to drive? A drivers license. There are many ways to identify who will be able to buy and sell.
The seal of God is a SYMBOLIC mark. The mark of the beast is as well.
If you didn’t have that SSN do you think you’d even have a bank account? A drivers license? ID of any sort? Any vehicle? Any job whatsoever? Think man!

Ahhh but the passage doesn’t say that worship constitutes a mark as in some type of spiritual mark place on the soul when he bows down to the beast. A person actually has to get a mark on the RIGHT HAND OR FOREHEAD.
A person could bow down to the beast but then repent later. But if he receives a public mark on the right hand or forehead, then that person has “sealed” his fate!
It a reverse of the Christian salvation experience where a person publicly confesses Christ as his Lord and Savior and believes in his heart that God has raised him from the dead. He then gets baptized as a public affirmation that he is now a believer in Jesus Christ sharing in the belief of the burial of the old man and the raising up of the new child of God that water baptism symbolizes and the cleansing of one’s sins. Such a person receives the Holy Spirit and is indwelt by the Spirit. The Father can see the image of the Son in such a person having placed that person into the hands of the Son.
The receiving of the Beast Mark will be a person’s public affirmation that such a deluded person is now one with the Beast and with Satan. Such a person has rejected salvation for all time.
The mark isn’t just some hyper symbolized or spiritualized impression placed on a soul, obviously the taking of the mark does that and certainly open hearted embracement of the beast does damn you if you don’t repent. It is an actual mark; that is why there is emphasis on the placement of said mark on the RIGHT HAND OR FOREHEAD.** I don’t think it is necessarily 666 for that is the calculated number of the beast’s name but it will be HIS mark just the same.
**It is silly to twist the language of Revelation to argue that the “mark” is the marking of a soul due to worship of the beast. An invisible soul mark would be on the soul not on the RIGHT HAND OR FOREHEAD! A visible mark would be placed on the right hand or forehead....where people could see it out in the open!

The issue is about AUTHORITY AND TO WHOM YOU GIVE IT TO IN WORSHIP. God says Saturday. The Catholic church says Sunday. Choose wisely because in the end your salvation will depend on it.
Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church:

Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did, happened in the first century. The holy day, the Sabbath, was changed from Saturday to Sunday. “The Day of the Lord” (dies Dominica) was chosen, not from any directions noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church’s sense of its own power. The day of resurrection, the day of Pentecost, fifty days later, came on the first day of the week. So this would be the new Sabbath. People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically become 7th Day Adventists, and keep Saturday holy.

So the Catholic Church considers it’s mark (!) of authority over the Bible to be Sunday worship! The Catholic Church claims responsibility for changing the day of rest from Saturday (the Sabbath) to Sunday, a change which is not directed by the Bible. Therefore the mark of authority of the beast is Sunday worship. Note that according to Revelation 13:16 this mark can be either the hand or the forehead. If the mark of the beast is in the forehead, you believe that the Pope is right and Sunday is the correct day to rest. You accept and believe the Pope’s authority to change the Law of God, the Ten Commandments. If you have the mark on the hand, you do not necessarily agree that the Pope has such authority, but because of fear of persecution or peer pressure, you continue to follow his dictates. By your actions you give your allegiance to the Pope and Catholicism.
