His Excellency made mention of President Trump's proclamation of the 850th anniversary of St. Thomas Becket's death
January 14, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – In this episode of The Bishop Strickland Show, Bishop Joseph Strickland focuses his attention on the importance and need for Christians to prepare for martyrdom in whatever form and whenever it may come.
Strickland and host Terry Barber talk about the proclamation from President Trump last month on the 850th anniversary of the martyrdom of Saint Thomas Becket. Bishop Strickland called the proclamation from the president a form of “true leadership.”
Bishop Strickland states that Thomas Becket “was willing to die rather than buckle under any other authority, anyone who was denying Christ and denying the ability for the human person to be free, and [have the] conscience to pursue the life that Christ offers us.”
His Excellency proceeds to highlight the need for Christians in today’s society to be ready and willing to suffer for Jesus Christ, as many martyrs of the Church have done throughout history.
Strickland calls on Christians “to be ready for a new age of martyrdom. A martyrdom of giving up some freedoms...[and] to at least suffer the white martyrdoms of whatever suffering it means, whatever ostracizing it means...in order to be faithful to Jesus Christ.”
Strickland says that we have to pray to be “guided by the wisdom of God and the Holy Spirit” in order to discern when martyrdom is necessary. If it comes to that point, “we can’t deny the truth and we should resist,” he says.

Must be the bishop's nasty new normal for martyrdom. Martyr is from the Greek. It means to be a witness, not give up your freedom.
Bullshit. There is no need to get murdered in your piety. Do what you gotta do. If that is a sin, that is just exactly the kinda thing I needed Jesus my redeemer for in the first place.
“..I may have lost my Church today, ...”
Your “Church” is in your own heart; that’s the ONLY place it belongs, where no one can ever take it from you. No one owns it except you, nor can you ever lose it.
Most of the priests who taught me where WWII and Korean War chaplains. They would, were they still here, ridicule the very idea of allowing oneself to be martyred.
I’d rather get ready for the new Crusades.
Wilmoore Kendall called pacifism a heresy. Don’t confuse Kendall with Kevin McCarthy or the good bishop.
I am sorry I that happened retarding your church. I will leave mine if they say something stupid.
Regarding.
Well said.
Isn’t martyrdom the ultimate send these days?
And don't forget Joshua. He was quite a badass as well. The Sun even stood still for him, at the command of God, so that he and his men could see to finish the battle they were fighting
Rev Gerald Wison Jr.
Combat Chaplin in WWII, Korea and 'Nam.
Broke both his legs and his back in 3 separate active LZ jumps.
You should have heard him tell the undercover ATF agents at gun shows to "Piss Off".
Jesus died on the cross when he could have called a legion of angels to save him. You need to come to Christ for salvation, not earthly comforts.
“Make the OTHER bastard a martyr for HIS cause.”
Decades ago that is what I was taught in basic training, you make the other guy earn the medals (posthumously) and be the hero to his crappy country.
General Patton is smiling down on you right now, brother...
On a positive note, martyrs are the first ones raised up!
Think of a mother whose son has died in a war. She suffers terribly although she has only shed tears.
I don’t disagree. There’s nothing earthly comfortable about resisting tyranny.
F*ck that!
I’ll be making martyrs of blues in the USA if the Left keeps pushing this country into civil war.
Foolishness.
Yes, witness to Theo given rights, and those that gave their earthly walk for us.
To not defend against thieves is sin.
“ If the master of the house knew what hour the thieves come” he would be ready.”
Lock and load. Can’t lie to the father’s.
One thing is certain, people are being given the option of denying Christ or facing serious consequences. As time goes on those consequences will get more and more serious. Soon, the cost of making that denial will be very high and the rewards for denying Christ will be made very attractive.
Amazingly, even the Pope seems to be one of those forcing that denial.
How we got to this point so suddenly is not totally clear, but we have and things are progressing rapidly. Pretty sure guns are going to be as much use as some anticipate as this conflict is taking place as much spiritually as anything else and the growing apostasy we see is the real enemy.
As we are seeing right before our eyes, when people don't believe in something, it's very easy to deny it and to ridicule and hate and persecute those who refuse to deny.
A lot of what you see going on these days is targeted to conditioning people to do just that - people who refuse to believe in lies and proclaim those lies as truth are labeled as "deniers" and the plan is to single the deniers out for ridicule, persecution and punishment.
Sound familiar? It should. Denial of Christ is the ultimate goal of this plan as denial of Christ is the ultimate denial.
We are working our way to that point one denial after another.
