John Piper, founder of DesiringGod.org and chancellor of Bethlehem College & Seminary, speaks at the MLK50 Conference hosted by the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention and The Gospel Coalition in Memphis, Tennessee,
Christians from across the spectrum have weighed in on influential pastor and author John Piper's op-ed piece criticizing Christians' support for President Donald Trump.
I think it is a drastic mistake to think that the deadly influences of a leader come only through his policies and not also through his person, Piper, founder of Desiring God, wrote on Thursday. Flagrant boastfulness, vulgarity, immorality and factiousness are not only self-incriminating; they are nation-corrupting.
Though he later clarified he is not voting for either Trump or Biden, Piper said he is baffled by the fact that so many Christians seem to be sure that they are saving human lives and freedoms by treating as minimal the destructive effects of the spreading gangrene of high-profile, high-handed, culture-shaping sin.
Christians communicate a falsehood to unbelievers (who are also baffled!) when we act as if policies and laws that protect life and freedom are more precious than being a certain kind of person. The church is paying dearly, and will continue to pay, for our communicating this falsehood year after year, he wrote.
Pipers blog post elicited a wide range of responses from Christian and political leaders, from Beth Moore to NFL star Benjamin Watson.
On Twitter, Moore, a popular Bible teacher, said Pipers comments are consistent with the approach hes always taken toward politics.
"Re: John Piper. The article yesterday came from the same John Piper I met 20+ years ago. 100% consistent. And if you want a preacher who will only preach what doesnt offend you, you need to find one who doesnt preach the Scriptures. Theres plenty out there. Knock yourself out."
"DO NOT SAY in the aftermath of all this madness, why didnt anybody warn us???"
In a separate tweet, she wrote: Incalculable damage was done by marrying evangelicalism to republicanism. (Same would be true if it had been Dem party.) My generation is the elder child of this unholy marriage and we are so deeply indoctrinated, we see them as 1 flesh. NO. The church is married to Christ alone.
New York Times bestselling author Joel Richardson said that while he loves Piper, abortion is not merely one of many equally relevant factors in this coming election.
To equate @POTUS' sins with the societally acceptable wholesale slaughter of the single most innocent little lambs that this world has to offer is straight up bull, he wrote.
Conservative Christian commentator Allie Beth Stuckey added, Any leftist cheering on John Piper today will be severely disappointed in his views on marriage, gender, abortion and socialism. Piper is not a liberal.
In contrast, influential pastor Thabiti Anyabwile called the post maybe the best blog post Ive ever read from Piper.
NFL star Benjamin Watson also approvingly shared Pipers post.
I went to Catholic grade school, high school and taught CCD for years. I left the Catholic Church for many reasons but mainly their acceptance of leftist candidates.
This is the best sermon I have ever heard defending the Catholic /Christian church and why we cant vote for a democrat.

Sorry, Pastor, but our Declaration of Independence (from the leg irons of British colonialism), states that we should have “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”. There can be no liberty or pursuits of happiness, or anything else, without LIFE.
Pastor Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
He is a Sheep in Wolves clothing; a pandering Socialist Destroyer, adultering the bible to make himself very wealthy for, basically just yapping from the mouth. Too many, so called Christian pastors are from the same persuasion. They are playing out biblical prophecy, perfectly and remain blinded from that fact.
Have you considered that Beth Moore is not really a true believer in the biblical sense. The devil quotes scripture too. It is now becoming more apparent. Trump being President has brought out the domestic enemies of the church and state.
2 Corinthians 11:12-15
12 And what I do I will also continue to do, in order to deny an opportunity to those who want an opportunity to be recognized as our equals in what they boast about. 13 For such boasters are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is not strange if his ministers also disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness. Their end will match their deeds.
I knew Piper was a Calvinist. I didn’t know he was THAT stupid, though! All a pastor needs to ask is this:
“Which party rejoices in their hatred for Jesus and Christians? Which party wants to drive all Christians out of public life? Which party would laugh while urinating on the Bible?”
Anyone who read the Bible would know God has often chosen and used men with massive flaws to achieve His ends. But then, I see no sign Piper is led by the Word of God. Same for Beth Moore.
He is being used by Satan. His current position has gotten him acclaim and he has fallen into great hubris.
Moses was not allowed to see the promise land after leading them there. Piper is leading the flock astray. God is not using him... Satan is.
Samson, not Sampson.
I concur. Just like I posted on post#27.
They are all idiots.
They suggest that the only reason so many Evangelicals support so many Republicans is some kind of philosophical marriage between Evangelicals and Republicans.
None of them dare suggest the reality:
(1) Evangelicals are not married to Republicans.
(2) Evangelicals would leave every and any Republican not supporting policies and approaches to and in government that they do not like, and will continue to support those Republicans who are supporting policies and approaches to and in government that Evangelicals do like.
(3) And Trump just happens to be a Republican with policies and approaches to and in government so many Evangelicals like.
Yes, it IS about policies and approaches to and in government, not personalities, that matter, because at the end of the day it is those things that matter the most, not personalities.
I remind Christians that King David was not a saint. Yet he was the right person at a particular time for Israel, and in spite of his sins David had a relationship with G-d and was a man “After G-d’s own heart”. (1 Sam. 13:14, NKJV)
To sit out an election because of a personality you don’t like, even though that personality has been backing all the right moves in government, is no more than voting for the folks whose policies you know you will hate.
You're right... he's the "Big Guy"!
I have seen many preachers condemn Trump, calling him “dangerous” and “immoral” because they believe Trump judges people harshly.
Let that sink in for a moment.
I’m not a Repukelican, but there is only 1 party that has the chance to elect people that agree mostly with my thinking.
Does Piper and these other so-called holy people ever speak out against leftist rats? They mostly just seem to want to break down Trump and support for him while never addressing leftists.
Like I said in the first post on this subject, I’d like to ask ‘Pastor’ Piper what he’ll do once President Harris (you know it’s coming) passes legislation to shut down churches who preach authentic Christianity as practicing ‘hate speech’ and then show up at their houses to haul him and his followers off to ‘re-education camps’?
He needs to fall on his knees and REPENT before Almighty G-d.
Trump gives the wicked the condemnation they deserve!
Why does any preacher need $17 million?
Glad you brought up the Calvinist Clique, I was going to bring it up as well. They are also called the Frozen Chosen and have brought devastating legalism into the church... elitists that do not believe in free will.
