VENTURA, California, July 24, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) Under the cover of darkness, the city of Ventura, California removed the statue of St. Junipero Serra from in front of city hall and deposited it in a storage facility. This took place on July 23 before dawn. The city first erected the monument to Father Serra, Venturas founder, in 1936.
Last week, the city council voted unanimously to remove both the bronze statue from in front of city hall and the identical wooden statue from inside the building, ceding to clamor that Father Serra was Father genocide who was a racist, and hence has no place in todays Ventura.
This week, citizens filed a lawsuit challenging the validity of the city councils vote. They also asked for a restraining order to prevent the city from removing the bronze statue, arguing that the city ran roughshod over the rules regulating the disposal of historic resources. The court denied the request for a restraining order, accepting the citys argument that the statue had to be removed for its own safety. The city made no mention of the fact that it was also rushing to remove the wooden statue from its place indoors, where it was in no danger.
The citys public works director, Phil Nelson, signed a declaration under penalty of perjury that the city believed the statue was in imminent danger of vandalism, which was why it had to be removed immediately. He said he personally was in charge of the statues removal. Phil Nelson is a Catholic deacon who serves at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ojai, California.
Due to the times posted on temporary no parking signs, supporters of the statue suspected the city would remove it in the dead of night. When the first supporters arrived at......

Ventura will have hell to pay. When L.A. took the cross off the City Seal I knew it was time to get out of town. L.A. has devolved into a dystopian nightmare.

Los Angeles which stands for The angels. I am surprised they haven’t changed the name yet.
How are they going to teach the history of California without mentioning Serra?
Dastardly bastards had to do it at night so no one can see their perfidy and hate. Destroy history and replace it with what? Nothing, truth is truth and can only be replaced with silence and lies.
Saw York as in New York was a notorious slave trader, lots of changes to come
my parents moved me to Pennsylvania in spring of 1968... told my mom years later thanks and good timing!
I thought Ventura was conservative; maybe that was long ago, far away, particularly with the current city council.
So, the Founding Father of California was put to rest. Uhmnn. am about finished reading a biography of his life. He actually enriched California and put it on the map..
A beautiful statue in a gorgeous location. I lived and/or worked not far from the statue for 16 years until I escaped from California. Its despicable - kowtowing to the anarchist mob never appeases them for long.
I pray for the safety of the mission he built on Main Street.
How times change. My Jr High history book in Cal (maybe 1960 or so) warned that if the Communists (who were portrayed as the enemy, believe it or not) were to ever prevail, cities like Los Angeles, and San Francisco would be required to change their names.
BTW I think it was L.A. County that removed the cross from its official seal.
I’m just west of occupied territory in Minneapolis. A lake within the city has been called Lake Calhoun forever. Businesses around it have Calhoun in their names, streets are called Calhoun, etc.
It was offensive to the “woke” so they changed it to something nobody can spell or pronounce.
I’ve heard that locals insist on still calling it Lake Calhoun. Obviously racists...
Mission San Gabriel already had a fire destroyed the roof, father Serra stature was removed from there too

I still call it Calhoun and so does everyone else from the American part of the state.
I believe the Calhoun Beach Club just changed their name to The Beach Club. Puke.
I went to a school in Cromwell, CT. As a Catholic, I don’t have too much use for the Cromwell it was named after, but that’s what it was called. History is history.
We have always considered Ventura as north LA...San Diego is south LA..San Berdo out to Victorville and Indio is east LA...It’s all LA....Only imaginary lines separate them...It’s all one big s**t bucket with little or nothing separating them like it used to be.
