Marxist Iconoclasm: Why Smashing Abe Lincoln Makes Sense, and MLK is Next
New Liturgical Movement ^ | 7/21/20 | David Clayton

It’s gone from bad to worse. The pattern of destruction of statues in the public square, which is emblematic of the general escalation of violence, has steadily morphed, it seems, into an ever broader and angrier and more irrational expression of lust for the wanton destruction of every statue.

Many who are worried by this development see it as the work of an ignorant mob which is so unaware of the history of the US and the West that in its misguided quest for social justice, is destroying even statues of people whom we might think are on the same side, for example, those who helped to abolish slavery, such as Abraham Lincoln.

A statue of Lincoln vandalized in Chicago

I am worried too, but I don’t think what is happening is irrational. It is all consistent with the ideology of the agitators who want to destroy the West.

What began over 100 years ago as an intellectual exercise in our art departments, in which traditional representational art was discredited in favor of abstract art, has turned into all-out iconoclasm, which aims to destroy all images that symbolize or uphold Western values, as part of the mission of destroying Western civilization itself. By this, there is a clear logic to the destruction not only of the statues of Junipero Serra, Washington, and Jefferson, but also of statues of Abraham Lincoln, and even Frederick Douglass.

This matters, and it will not stop until it destroys all that these images symbolize, unless we stop it first. To counter it, we must understand the Marxist narrative of history that drives it, and know our own narrative, which is Salvation History. Then we must stand firm and promote the truth.

Lenin’s statue in Seattle remains unmolested.

It’s a communist revolution.

More disturbing than the actions of these mobs are the inactions of authorities allowing the mobs to destroy statues and monuments.

It is easily within their power to put a stop to it.

I agree. In some instances less than 100 people decide for a whole city that a statue has to come down — and the police sit idly by.

It is a communist revolution and these authorities are complicit in it.

Lenin’s statue in Seattle remains unmolested.

Which is telling.

Exactly. It started with Robert E. Lee. Then it went to Columbus, Washington, Jefferson, even Frederick Douglas.

The message is aimed at the youth. The country and its traditions...it ain't worth fighting for, kid.

2020 and for as long as this insanity lasts will be known as the “dark years” in the future for obvious reasons and it wasn’t because BLM and their useful idiot followers had any good points other than on top of their heads.

I certainly don’t believe in ‘castigating nearly everything associated with modern art’ (as the silly Wiki on the Art Renewal Center puts it) and don’t agree with the position of Mr. Ross on every point that he makes, in the link below. But there has definitely been a problem with the very shallow depth of ‘ART’ in recent decades.

We have no more ‘Beauty, Poetry and Grace’ in the so-called ‘art’ that we produce (not to mention any real *meaning*.)

https://www.artrenewal.org/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uglOD-S8jM

Though many will not have the patience nor interest to listen and attend to his talk, and ‘get it’, I believe this talk by Fred Ross is one of the most important speeches given by anyone, in any position, in recent years. It touches on much more than Art, but on every aspect of our thought, attitudes, reigning philosophies - and even our practical lives - today.

(The Comments on the YouTube are very interesting.)

“ArtSpeak: Complex sounding words and concepts used to create the illusion of something being more than it is.”

Yep. The man who opened most of the Gulags is loved by the Left just as Che, a murderer and terrorist who did those things personally, is adored by them too.

There used to be a T-shirt that you could buy - it looked like the usual Che iconography, but the message in small type said something like ‘Fooling American Youth Since...’

I’ve been trying to find it again, but can’t...

How about: “I died crying like a coward but you American Leftist live by crying like cowards”

I like the one I saw. It roped people in, and then they (may have) received a clue.

Yeah.

Also the Left thinks all their crying is brave.

That’s what has bothered me about the past couple of months.

What have any of these ‘peaceful protesters’ done, for any poor, Black family? Many poor black families were not able to go to the local grocery or pharmacy, for fear of the danger outside their doors.

And a lot of people lost sons, daughters - even babies! - during the recent melees - (’protest’-related, or because of the absence of Police.)

What does pulling down a statue do, substantially, for Anyone?

The 'movement' isn't about black lives - it's about white liberal elite's bratty Marxists offspring having a tantrum and using the 'black community' for power just like their parents do...

"The issue is never the issue. The revolution is always the issue." -- Saul Alinsky

In Rules for Radicals, Alinsky lays out the plan. They seek to find a grievance, not to alleviate it, but to rub it raw. They seek to make them scream and strike out in anger.

They DO NOT CARE about blacks or black families or black children. The leaders don't care about the rioters. They WANT some of the rioters killed, just like they engineered the riots at the 1968 DNC Convention and the shootings at Kent State. They care about the revolution.

Well, guys:

Wear a mask, Show up at your polling place in November, and Politely Demand to VOTE.

(And get everyone you know to vote, too.)

It goes deeper.

In 1921 we had the last time mobs of angry white Democrats descended on a black community and destroyed it.

In 2020 angry white Democrats resumed doing this, only THIS time they were helping and not doing it all.

“Helping”: 99 years of “progress” summed up in a word.
