Vatican Publishes New Book Reducing ‘Sin of Sodom’ to ‘Lack of Hospitality’

ROME, December 19, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — In what many see as an effort to normalize homosexuality in the Catholic Church, the Vatican has released a new book that reduces the “sin of Sodom” (Genesis 19:1–29) to “a lack of hospitality.”

“The story about the city of Sodom … illustrates a sin that consists in the lack of hospitality, with hostility and violence towards the stranger, a behavior judged to be very serious and therefore deserving to be sanctioned with the utmost severity,” the new book asserts.

Sources consulted by LifeSite described the book as “utter banality” and “obviously ridiculous.” One theologian exclaimed, “Thank God this stuff isn’t magisterial.”

The new volume, titled What Is Man? An Itinerary of Biblical Anthropology (Che cosa è l’uomo? Un itinerario di antropologia biblica), was released on December 16 by the Pontifical Biblical Commission (PBC) and endeavors to examine the scriptural understanding of the human person. Jesuit Father Pietro Bovati, secretary for the Pontifical Biblical Commission, said the work was carried out at the express wish of Pope Francis.

With a preface by Cardinal Luis Ladaria, S.J., prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and president of the Pontifical Biblical Commission, the volume is composed of four chapters: The human being created by God (ch. 1); The human being in the garden (ch. 2); The human family (ch. 3); and the human being in history (ch. 4).

Its 10-page treatment of homosexuality comes in chapter three, in a section entitled “transgressive ways” that also includes incest, adultery, and prostitution.

Well said. The Left is willing to leave college live four to a one bedroom apartment in some crap neighborhood so they can work for peanuts in some not for profit, professional association or company. Then they slowly work their way to top. And when they get there they purge anyone who doesn’t agree with them. And then they use the historic prominence of the organization to push their agenda. The American Psychiatry Assoc. is a prime example, where they took over and changed the long standing policy on homosexuality and transgenderism.

Well, it does kinda say that - Ezekiel 16:49 (NLT): Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door.

So if you close one eye and ignore the dozens of other verses that condemn homosexuality and the sin of Sodom, you could come to that conclusion.

Lack of hospitality?

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I suspect they will spin this into including not allowing unlimited immigration.

The sins of of pride, gluttony, laziness and neglect of the poor came about because the people of Sodom were consumed by their lusts; when your whole life is centered around gratifying your lusts, you don’t care about other people and when they are no longer sexually attractive they are no more than napkins to be tossed in the trash.

It is not for nothing that Peter Kreeft commented that “a sexualized society is a cruel society.”

This treatment of homosexuality is intentionally, strategically ambiguous. And I don't say that to minimize its evil. On the contrary:

"Ambiguity is the mark of the demonic." Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, "The Ratzinger Report," Ignatius Press, 1984.

Not just him, but every priest, bishop, archbishop and cardinal that he promoted has to go as well or nothing will change.

This Pope has taken the vast wealth in property of the Catholic Church while kicking out the true believers.

That He Has- there are still some parishes thankfully that still preach the salvation gospel- not all parishes are bad- many are though unfortunately- and more are becoming bad- and the pope is seeing to that-

FWIW, “the sin of inhospitality” as the reason for Sodom’s destruction (as opposed to sexual immorality and perversion) has been the position of the very liberal, pro-LBGT Metropolitan Church for decades and decades.

(I guess if you make the inhospitality circle on your Venn diagram big enough, sexual assault of the holy emissaries somehow would fall within it. Isn’t “judgement free” great?)
