Pope Francis: ‘I Am a Conservative’
Breitbart ^ | 5/29/19 | Thomas D. Williams

Posted on 06/02/2019 7:02:58 AM PDT by marshmallow

Pope Francis said he has always been a doctrinal conservative and takes accusations of being a heretic with a grain of salt.

“I have always defended doctrine,” the pope told Mexican reporter Valentina Alazraki in a lengthy interview released Tuesday by Vatican News. “I am a conservative.”

Asked how he reacts to being called a heretic, the pope said he takes it “with a sense of humor.”

Just weeks ago, a group of 19 Catholics, including clergy and scholars, questioned the pope’s theological orthodoxy, accusing him of “heresy” in an open letter to the bishops of the Catholic Church.

“I also pray for them because they are mistaken and I saw poor people, some of whom are manipulated,” the pope said. “I saw who the people were who signed.”

“No, seriously, a sense of humor and I would say tenderness, paternal tenderness,” he said. “I mean, it doesn’t hurt at all. I’m hurt by hypocrisy, lying, that hurts me. But a mistake like that, where there are even people whose heads have been filled with ideas. No, please, we have to take care of them too, we have to take care of them.”

The pope said that his words are often taken out of context, such as his famous line “Who am I to judge?” in reference to a homosexual priest who was trying to live a chaste life.

Francis said that his belief in the immorality of homosexual acts has not changed and that “it is a contradiction to speak of homosexual marriage.”

The pope also said that he misspoke when he said that teenagers who manifest a homosexual tendency should be taken to see a psychiatrist. “I meant to say a professional,” he said.

Popes aren’t elected by Catholic lay people.

That might not have made any difference considering how liberal/democrat most Catholic vote.

Not to mention that my sister who still lives in highly Catholic Western NY says that everyone she knows that's Catholic LOVES the new pope. And the chances of meeting someone on the street in the Buffalo area who is not Catholic are very slim.

Perhaps and perhaps not, but just to dispel the notion.

Do these Buffalo “Catholics” also hate Church Militant?

I have no idea.

All I know is what my sister told me from interacting with friends and people she works with.

And considering how liberal most of them voted and still vote today, I believe it. Buffalo has been a democrat stronghold for decades and the corruption in its politics is legendary.

I worked with several Catholics who were considered by their great involvement with their parish, to be very active Catholics who went to mass more than once a week. And they all voted for democrats, straight party line.

When asked how they could vote for democrats with the dem support for abortion in light of the church teaching on abortion, the response was virtually the same from all of them. Because “the democrats are for the poor”. And yes, that’s a quote.

Just a couple years ago an older neighbor who was a staunch Catholic and liberal to the core said, “I know what church teaching is on abortion but they have no right to tell a woman what she can do with her own body.”

And yes, another quote. I was aghast and her response was burned into my mind.

Pope Francis is anything but a conservative. A week or so ago, he told us that we should forget about tradition in the Catholic Church. Now he tells us he has always defended doctrine. Which is it? He is more involved in politics than in the work of the Lord. Take what he says with a grain of salt.

This reminds me of the time Hillary mused she was conservative. Anyone recall that?

By “conservative”, he means he follows Marx instead of Lenin or Mao.
