Viewpoint: Time for both sides of the abortion issue to listen
South Bend Tribune ^ | Jun 1, 2019 | Rev. Edward Ruetz

Insensitive, hard-nosed male legislators, in a score of state legislatures, are involved in passing bans with draconian punishment of doctors on the abortion of fetuses with a heartbeat. They hope that these extreme laws will impel the Supreme Court to take up and possibly overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade abortion decision.

I am a 93-year-old retired Catholic priest with terminal cancer. I believe that I must speak the truth in love to the above male leaders and their followers.

... I have been very angry at both the extreme pro-choice advocates who say that, until birth, the fetus is just a mass of cells, and the extreme pro-life advocates who refuse to get into the skins and shoes of women with unwanted, problem pregnancies to listen sensitively to their personal dilemmas and stories.

... My Catholic Church could help this effort by removing their restrictions to the use of contraceptives on the part of responsible Catholics, women and men.

Please read the entire article.
This Catholic Priest believes removing the restrictions on contraceptions for Catholics is going to reduce the abortion rate. I think he's wrong because devout Catholics that are abiding to the restrictions are not going to be the ones that will get abortions.

I don’t give a rat’s ass what their “personal dilemmas and stories” are. NOTHING excuses murder.

Before he dies, this “enlightened” priest ought to tour a few abortion clinics and view an abortion from beginning to end. Sorry but the man is an old fool.

Priest is a Heretic if he thinks contraceptives are a merely considered by Catholics to be a restriction of mere human law or discipline. Catholic teaching on this is clearly defined as a matter of divine law (Which cannot change).

“Time for both sides of the abortion issue to listen”

Usually when an article starts off like this it means conservatives shut up and get lectured on how the left says it will be.

Insensitive, hard nosed males grabbed abortion out of thin air and Unconstitutionally made it law. It changed society for the worse, left millions dead, and diminished our nation, our churches, and families.

Really. What verses support a ban on contraception? When you invoke divine law you should be able to back it up. And please explain how natural family planning is not contraception albeit poor ineffective contraception.

Insensitive, hard-nosed male legislators...

Sorry, I stopped right there. I can already tell that this article is not going to be a fair discussion but just another anti-male screed by a leftist who is looking to be triggered.

Writers need to learn how to address a topic without throwing around incendiary phrases.

Interesting how this “priest” didn’t get outraged enough to write an article when NY cheered after passing a law to allow abortion up to and even beyond full term. Also noticed his use of “pro-choice” rather than “pro-abortion”.

This is from the South Bend Trib. A retired Notre Dame faculty member?

He is hallucinating that abortion can be “rare, safe, and legal.” That was the red herring argument that led to one of the biggest genocides in history.

Instead of “rare, safe, legal” it quickly devolved to “Oops, I forgot the condom. What the heck.”

Insensitive, hard-nosed male legislators,

Pound sand, "Rev".

We're talking about killing babies. What is there to discuss? What do the baby-killers have to say, that deserves a hearing?

What is the reasonable side to the argument for murdering children, Father?
Please repent and make a good confession for promoting
murder.
As you point out your body is terminal; but remember your soul is not.

Do you serious wan’t a separated topic on why Catholics say God commands this or would a google search be better for you?

>>When you invoke divine law you should be able to back it up.<<<

It is not me who invokes divine law it is the Catholic Church that solemnly defines contraception as prohibited in God’s plan.

For reference:

“every action which, whether in anticipation of the conjugal act, or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible” is intrinsically evil:

CATHOLIC CHURCH, Catechism of the Catholic Church (Washington, DC 2nd Ed.2000) No. 2370, pg 570.

Further reference Pope Pius XI Casti Connubii 53–54.

Biblical references: Genesis 38:8–10, Dt 23:1, New Testament sources also: Acts 15:20

I have a kid at Notre Dame. It is completely saturated and overrun with New Age garbage, embracement of homosexuality, and hatred of white males.

Spend a day on campus and you’d swear you were at Berkeley.

It takes two to tango.

IF there is a rape, then an execution of the guilty party.

But a lot of what is called rape we used to call regret.

A better choice would be to not have sex until you are ready for kids. Those old rules were not made to be mean, but for real practical reasons.

Infanticide by the mother is murder of the worst short.

I have said it before, and will again.
The Catholic Church in the US is a very heretical and liberal organization.

Are there orthodox Catholics? Yes!

But any time someone waves their Catholic faith, I know it will be pro death.
