Pete Buttigieg is Wrong — God Still Forbids All Homosexual Acts
http://www.ncregister.com ^ | May 16, 2019 | Msgr Charles Pope

Posted on 05/26/2019 7:55:48 AM PDT by NKP_Vet

In recent remarks, Pete Buttigieg, Democratic presidential candidate and mayor of South Bend, Indiana, remarked that his same-sex “marriage” to Chasten Glezman has brought him closer to God. His remarks were directed toward Vice President Mike Pence, who is on record as opposing such “marriages.” Buttigieg said:

Being married to Chasten has made me a better human being because it has made me more compassionate, more understanding, more self-aware and more decent. My marriage to Chasten has made me a better man. And yes, Mr. Vice President, it has moved me closer to God.

This raises a question: To what god has he moved closer? Respectfully and sincerely, Mr. Buttigieg, it cannot be the God who has revealed himself in the Scriptures and through the Church. God is not in the habit of speaking out of both sides of his mouth. He does not contradict himself by altering, let alone reversing (as you claim) his teachings.

At every stage of scriptural revelation, from Genesis through the New Testament, God has spoken of homosexual acts as sinful and disordered. He also condemns other forms of illicit sexual union such as fornication and adultery. Jesus even condemns the entertaining of lustful thoughts. I have written before of the biblical record on these teachings (“Do Not Be Deceived: God Forbids Homosexual Acts”).

Some point out that Jesus is never recorded in Scripture as condemning homosexual acts. That may be true — but he is not recorded as condemning rape, either. An argument based on silence is weak at best and erroneous at worst. Further, Jesus said to his apostles “He who hears you hears me” — and the apostles unambiguously describe homosexual acts as sinful. These biblical texts are not ambiguous, and they are consistent across every biblical era.

Well, the perverts managed to make lots of inroads while people weren’t talking about them.

Now if only talking would proceed to serious pushing back on all fronts.

Thoughtful, well written article. Thanks for posting.
I’m always encouraged to find Catholic clergy who hold with scriptural truth.

Becoming a better person does not make one a follower of Christ. All of Satan’s followers strive to become better persons. One does not become saved by being a better person. Buttgeig’s situational ethics is not Biblical or Christian.

If there one Protestant Church with hundreds of thousands of pastors the exact same thing would be happening. We are all sinners. This does not change the truth of scripture that’s been around for thousands of years.

"Some point out that Jesus is never recorded in Scripture as condemning homosexual acts."

Actually, by supporting "the law and the prophets," Jesus did condemn homosexual acts, albeit indirectly.

"Am I the only one who finds it ironically amusing that this article was written by an official of the Catholic church?"

It's not ironic. The fact of the sex abuse problems in the Catholic Church does not implicate all priests or all Catholics, many of whom are appalled by what happened.

>>Being married to Chasten has made me a better human being because it has made me more compassionate, more understanding, more self-aware and more decent. My marriage to Chasten has made me a better man.

Has it made him more monogamous? Or does he still cruise for random sexual encounters?

>>The trouble with people rewriting the Bible is that they think they are God.

It worked for Mohammed. Billions are enslaved bowing 5 times a day to his mortal arse and the capital of his Islamic empire. Not a bad following for a dead warlord with a child bride.

There can never be “Reform Islam” to stamp out polygamy, child brides, slavery, or religious conquest because that was life under Mohammed and he was considered by cultists to be “the perfect man”.

You fear? he is headed to hell if he does not repent.
Romans: 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

"By this I mean that while there were many issues that Jews were facing where confused, contradictory and even Scripture negating traditions had been advanced ... and we do see Christ addressing these ... there was NOT confusion being advanced about homosexuality being perverted or not."

I've made that same point many times. In addition, after the crucifixion and resurrection, when Christianity began to spread among the gentiles, homosexuality DID need to be confronted, which is why Paul - along with the non-canonical (but orthodox) work known as The Didache - addresses the issue.

Rewriting the Bible in his own image..whom he truly loves - 2 Timothy 3:2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good,… Also, Leviticus 19:21 You must not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molech, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD. 22 You must not lie with a man as with a woman; that is an abomination. 23 You must not have sexual relations with any animal, thus defiling yourself with it; a woman must not stand before an animal to mate with it; that is a perversion.… I guess he hasn’t gotten to the part of sexual relations with an animal (yet), but he does adhere to the sacrificing children statute. I have yet to find where God changed his statutes. I guess that he believes that Jesus gave him that right, as long as he said the magic prayer ‘accept Jesus as your saviour and all will be forgiven’. Paul said in Romans 6:15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! 16 Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? Buttigieg is a slave to his own animal soul. I pray for his deliverance from it.

Yep.

Isn’t it remarkable that the Left, which lusts to regulate every nuance of life besides sex to the point that unless something is licensed / permitted it is illegal are also those who will bring up Christ not mentioning stuffas if anything not mentioned is lawful?

Oh, and did early Muslims love how white Mohammad was. White as bleached mayonasse ... a guy who said if you wanted to know what the devil looked like you should look at this one black guy he knew.

... and all these black folks thinking Islam isn’t the religion of slavery....

"Ironically amusing" that this article was written by Msgr. Charles Pope, who is an official (a priest) of the Catholic Church?

How about "excellent, and entirely to be expected."

"Excellent" because it is in line with the teaching of the Catholic Church for two millennia, and to the present day.

"To be expected" because this man, Charles Pope,is well known to Free Republic Religion Forum readers as one who walks the walk as well as talks the talk.

I was hoping for a well written response to the Mayor and you have posted it. Thanks!

We all have some challenge(s) to overcome and I truly pity those who suffer with same sex attractions.

That being said, the “God made me this way” belief doesn’t feel or seem accurate enough to rationalize anyone’s sins into heaven.

“Celebrating a disorder and attributing it to God is injurious to us and insulting to him. Any distortions that have come into the human family have come as a result of sin, original and personal.

Don’t blame God. We live in a fallen world, governed by a fallen angel, and we have fallen natures. This is something to be sober about, not to celebrate.”

We can’t wait until we are perfect first before we come to God. That’s not going to happen.

Instead, we must come to Him as we are, sins and all, and seek His Help and Grace to overcome those sins and their strongholds within us, not celebrate them.

I hope the Mayor doesn’t mistake Christ’s Love, Mercy and Grace as being His acceptance or His celebration of our sins.

That’s a dangerous belief to take to the grave.
