FULL TITLE: Jerusalem's revered Al-Asqa Mosque was struck by blaze that broke out the same time Notre Dame was devastated by inferno
A fire broke out on the compound of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on Monday, just as a huge blaze ripped through the Notre Dame cathedral 2000 miles away in Paris.
Smoke and fire was seen billowing from the roof of the Marwani Prayer Hall - also known as Solomon's Stables, located at the bottom of stairs which lead down from the revered Al-Aqsa Mosque.
'The fire broke out in the guard's room outside the roof of the Marwani Prayer Room, and the fire brigade of the Islamic Waqf handled the matter successfully,' the Palestine News Agency said on Monday.

It was a very small fire in a guard’s booth, not in the mosque. The Waqf said it was started by children playing with fire. There is no change to the mosque’s schedule.
I wonder if anyone with arson tools tried to breach security at the Vatican recently.
On second thought, considering the negative to low esteem in which the Pope is held, maybe the arsonist thought Notre Dame was a more important symbol to Christianity than the Vatican.
According to Israeli papers there was an reenactment of Passover going on outside the Mosque yesterday. It *could* have been a zealous believer who hoped to destroy the Mosque to fulfill prophecy. In 1948 Israel signed an agreement to keep the status quo on the Mosque and in recent years there has been increasing breaches of that with Jewish orthodox attempting to pray in the Mosque or do other religious practices.
Some people have a bad wahhabit of destroying historical religious structures.
