OME, December 19, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) A number of theologians and biblical experts have spoken against Pope Franciss wish to change the Italian translation of the Our Father.
One of these theologians, Monsignor Nicola Bux, has said the Italian bishops recent decision to replace the traditional translation of the petition and lead us not into temptation with a new version is tantamount to surrendering to the feel-good conception of God that is so widespread among Catholics today.
The eagerness for change, the former consultor to the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith under Pope Benedict XVI has said, is an expression of the paradigm shift or cultural revolution currently being promoted in the Church.
Buxs comments come one year after Pope Francis advocated a change in the Lords prayer on Italian TV, saying the traditional translation of its sixth petition is not good.
Pope says its not good
The Italian translation of the Our Fathers sixth petition e non ci indurre in tentazione that is sung during the Mass, is patterned on the Latin et ne nos inducas in tentationem almost to the letter, as is the English rendering, and lead us not into temptation.
In the last official translation of the Bible into Italian, approved by the Holy See in 2008, we read and do not abandon us to temptation. But theres another story behind the recent change to the Italian version of the Our Father for use in the Mass.
On Dec. 6, 2017, Pope Francis appeared with Fr. Marco Pozza on TV2000s weekly program Our Father to talk about its sixth petition: and lead us not into temptation.

The original Greek “eisenegkes” does refer to a leading into, or bringing into. Also, “peirasmon” refers to being put to the test, or a severe trial. (From Matthew 6:13)
There is no original Aramaic. If the Apostles were divinely inspired to write and preserve the New Testament in Aramaic, they would have done so, just as the Masoretic Texts are in their original Hebrew and (in parts) Aramaic.
From the pope who wants to lead us all into temptation.

I’ve long liked this in Aramaic. Not sure of the translational sources, but it’s very hypnotic.
“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” (Matthew 4:1)
Seems like Jesus being “abandoned” by the Spirit in the wilderness rather than “led” would have some theological implications. Changing the scripture to please today’s dull-witted, ignorant people is an answer looking for a problem. Which is what political correctness is really all about. Don’t like reality? Pretend something else is the truth. The consequences are everywhere. Now it’s in the churches.
You don’t change difficult passages so you can deal with them more easily. You grapple with them to better understand them as they are. Jesus didn’t sugar-coat anything He said, either. This re-writing of the Bible business is heretical, in my opinion.
It’s terrible for a Pope to do that.
Hot women...not so much :)
feel-good conception of God that is so widespread among Catholics today.
It’s not just Catholics, it’s widespread throughout Protestant churches too. Unfortunately Catholics have more world wide power and influence over countries, their leaders and people than any Protestant group.
Sounds like more ‘End Times’ prophecy fulfillment.
Revelation 3:15-16 (KJV)
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Is there any process by which a pope can be removed from office?
I’m pretty sure the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals can remove a Pope.
Pope Obama can say it any way he wants to. Good luck getting me to say it differently.
Yep. How is he going to enforce it?
“Opposition grows to Pope Francis”, period.
