The one good thing I will say about the current crisis is that the dam has broken as to the outrage from those of us sitting in the pews. In the 2002 time frame, there was a “let’s give the Magisterium a chance” attitude but not now.

Totally agree. But I think the word you're looking for is "the hierarchy," not "the Magisterium." Magisterium means teaching authority, and on this subject it's not their teaching (doctrine) that's faulty, but their practice (what they do!)

It sure has for me. Years of sitting in the pews listening to homilies about humility, and it turns out everyone in a red hat lumped together does not yield enough humility to fill a Dixie cup.
