God is GOOD!!! Thank you for the update on this precious baby!

Our NICU twins had so many prayers for two years. So many look at them and tell them they prayed for them as babies. Well, guess what? These two pray for others when they are sick and make posters for their mom to send text to those they pray for!!!....and, they will be 8 years old next month!!! Wish we all were that prayed up!!!

Continued blessings and strength in Jesus’ Mighty Name!

Praise God!

For two new prayer warriors coming online and

all the parents that through their difficulties still

teach their children to pray for others in distress.

Dear "PRAYERS FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS" Prayer warriors.

Updates from midnightcat about her mother Edith...(original thread) Click here to reply to midnightcat's (update thread)

Update 1:
As an update, for those of you praying for my mother - we had another trip to Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia this Thursday. My mother’s tumor is inoperable, per MRI. Too dangerous to remove and not something that would come out cleanly anyway. It’s close to the base of the skull, the carotid artery, for example.

This tumor does not respond to traditional chemotherapy, but they are sending out the biopsy for genetic testing to see if there is some kind of weakness that can be exploited with a special drug. There is only a 30% change this tumor has the “right” genetics.

We have a consult next week with a radiation oncologist in hopes that maybe tumor will respond to radiation. Apparently, high grade salivary duct carcinoma is very rare and a nightmare to treat and it almost seems that not much can be done via palliative care either. Or so it seems. We hadn't realized that even palliative care would be a problem! I had hoped we could at least keep her comfortable and functional until hospice was needed....

Her PET scan wasn’t showing major metastasis but there were 2 tiny hotspots under her arms that they thought was weird and needs ultrasound and biopsy for further investigation. Otherwise, her major organs are not yet full of cancer.

At any rate, the best and only real treatment would have been surgery and then radiation which is now not possible. I’m worried if we don’t get some kind of treatment soon, it may soon affect her swallowing, not to mention facial paralysis.

My brother and I do not want her to suffer. Thank you for your prayers.

Update 2:
Well, they sent the tumor sample out for genetic testing, but it’s not a high chance that it will come back with the specific things they are looking for that would work with gene therapy. It’s only a 30% chance, but having said that, it would be wonderful if it had that.

I had no idea head and neck cancers were such dreadful things. My father had a carcinoid cancer that did eventually take him, but he didn’t have pain with it. Those types of tumors aren’t hard - they don’t strangle blood vessels or nerves like hard tumors do (per his oncologist who explained this). He mainly had extreme fatigue, weakness and passed peacefully on hospice. My mother’s tumor is hard. I’m having nightmares of this thing strangling her. Meanwhile, the rest of her body isn’t full of cancer yet. I only wish she would pass quickly and peacefully if this tumor cannot be controlled somehow.

Father God,

We praise Your name, as You are our Creator, the Creator of all the universe, and we are but specks.

Yet You care for us. Every cell and hair of us—Your Word says so.

We are important to Your plan for Your vast Creation; just as every minute cell in our bodies has a function for us as individuals, each of us has a role to play in Your Great Unfolding.

This case of Mother Midnight is a special one, Lord God.

It tests us with fear, and even dread.

It calls upon us to remember Your great providence and mercy.

We must recall that when things seem impossible to us, all things are possible with You.

And so we plead with You for Mother Midnight’s healing, Lord.

Take away her tumor, destroy it, make it yield and disappear, or shrink it to the point that surgery or radiation can quash its growth and end its tyranny, or use it to end her life without suffering — yet not our will, but Yours, Lord.

For You are the Supreme Intelligence, the God of our lives, our spirits and our bodies.

Let us begin with prayer for the complete assurance of salvation of Mother, and every family member who is praying for Mother.

Let Mother and all her family members repent and be saved, that their prayers will be effective.

Set their minds, and indeed the minds of every Christian, on Your eternal kingdom that awaits Your faithful, for none of us knows the day or the hour.

Guide the hearts and minds of every caregiver associated with Mother’s case, dear Lord.

Whether their motivation is ego, admiration or reward among men, or use of the talents Your have given them to give glory to Your name, may each caregiver deploy their gifts as skillfully as never before in this baffling case.

May the apparent mysteries of this case disintegrate and fall away, leaving a clear path and direction of care.

Smite all negativity surrounding Mother, we pray, including fear, doubt, indifference, carelessness and especially pain. Remove them miraculously and with certainty.

Strengthen every family member in attendance on Mother, Lord God, giving them peace beyond understanding and the words of encouragement, love and reassurance between themselves as they organize for this leg of the journey.

Bring faithful Christians in support of this family, and worthy pastoral care for each of them.

May this case contain unexpected blessings and awareness of Your constant Presence.

In the Name and through the Power of our Way-shower, Jesus Christ, we lift this prayer to Your mighty Mind and Heart and Hand of grace, our Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Godhead three-in-One,

Amen.

Dear "PRAYERS FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS" Prayer warriors.

Honorary FReeper Rush desperately needs our prayers Click here to add your prayers.

Ladies and gentlemen, this… This day has been one of the most difficult days in recent memory for me because I’ve known this moment was coming in the program today. Now, I’m sure that you all know by now, I really don’t like talking about myself, and I don’t like making things about me other than in the usual satirical, parodic, joking way.
I like this program to be about you and the things that matter to all of us. The one thing that I know that has happened over the 31-plus years of this program is that there has been an incredible bond that has developed between all of you and me. Now, this program’s 31 years old, and in that 31 years, there are people — you hear them call all the time — who have been listening the whole time. They’ve been listening 30 years or 25 years.

I just had somebody say they’ve been here three years. But, whatever, it is a family-type relationship to me, and I’ve mentioned to you that this program and this job is what has provided me the greatest satisfaction and happiness that I’ve ever experienced, more than I ever thought that I would experience. So I have to tell you something today that I wish I didn’t have to tell you.

It’s a struggle for me because I had to inform my staff earlier today. I can’t escape… Even though people are telling me it’s not the way to look at it, I can’t help but feel that I’m letting everybody down with this. But the upshot is that I have been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer, diagnosis confirmed by two medical institutions back on January 20th. I first realized something was wrong on my birthday weekend, January 12th.

I wish I didn’t have to tell you this, and I thought about not telling anybody. I thought about trying to do this without anybody knowing, ’cause I don’t like making things about me. But there are going to be days that I’m not gonna be able to be here because I’m undergoing treatment or I’m reacting to treatment, and I know that that would inspire all kinds of curiosity with people wondering what’s going on.

And the worst thing that can happen is when there is something going on and you try to hide it and cover it up. It’s eventually gonna leak, and then people are gonna say, “Why didn’t you just say it? Why’d you try to fool everybody? ” It’s not that I want to fool anybody. It’s just that I don’t want to burden anybody with it, and I haven’t wanted to. But it is what it is. You know me; I’m the mayor of Realville.

So this has happened, and my intention is to come here every day I can and to do this program as normally and as competently and as expertly as I do each and every day, because that is the source of my greatest satisfaction professionally, personally. I’ve had so much support from family and friends during this that it’s just been tremendous. I told the staff today that I have a deeply personal relationship with God that I do not proselytize about.

But I do, and I have been working that relationship (chuckles) tremendously, which I do regularly anyway, but I’ve been focused on it intensely for the past couple of weeks. I know there are many of you in this audience who have experienced this, who are going through it yourselves at the same time. I am, at the moment, experiencing zero symptoms other than… Look, I don’t want to get too detailed in this.

What led to shortness of breath that I thought might have been asthma or — you know, I’m 69 — it could have been my heart. My heart’s in great shape, ticking away fine, squeezing and pumping great. It was not that. It was a pulmonary problem involving malignancy. So I’m gonna be gone the next couple days as we figure out the treatment course of action and have further testing done. But as I said, I’m gonna be here as often as I can.

And as is the case with everybody who finds themselves in this circumstance, you just want to push ahead and try to keep everything as normal as you can, which is something that I’m going to try to do. But I felt that I had to tell you because that’s the kind of relationship I feel like I have with those of you in this audience. I say it every Christmas, which is what I feel more thankful than as Thanksgiving.

And I feel thankful at Thanksgiving, but Christmas it really gets to me. But over the years, a lot of people have been very nice telling me how much this program has meant to them. But whatever that is, it pales in comparison to what you all have meant to me. And I can’t describe this. But I know you’re there every day. I can see you. It’s strange how, but I know you’re there.

I know you’re there in great numbers, and I know that you understand everything I say. The rest of the world may not when they hear it expressed a different way, but I know that you do. You’ve been one of the greatest sources of confidence that I’ve had in my life. So I hope I will be talking about this as little as necessary in the coming days.

But we’ve got a great bunch of doctors, a great team assembled. We’re at full-speed ahead on this, and it’s just now a matter of implementing what we are gonna be told later this week. So I’ll be back here. I hope I’ll be back Thursday. If not, it will be as soon as I can — and know that every day I’m not here, I’ll be thinking about you and missing you. Thank you very much.
