Irish Times exit poll projects Ireland has voted by landslide to repeal Eighth Amendment
Irish Times ^ | May 25, 2018 | Pat Leahy

Ireland has voted by a landslide margin to change the constitution so that abortion can be legalised, according to an exit poll conducted for The Irish Times by Ipsos/MRBI.

The poll suggests that the margin of victory for the Yes side in the referendum will be 68 per cent to 32 per cent – a stunning victory for the Yes side after a long and often divisive campaign. See here for liveblog coverage of events across Friday in the referendum vote.

Don’t joke, the Girl Scouts are just behind the Boy Scouts. My husband showed me an article today that the Girl Scouts in Britain are able to earn a badge now for Period Poverty. I said ‘that doesn’t’t have anything to do with a girl’s period, does it?’ And he said ‘yes’. If I could link to a picture of the badge, I would. It is ridiculous.

I'll wait until the actual votes are counted.

BTW, as a catholic, and it hurts so much to say this, but Francis is tying a mill stone around his neck each day.

God helps those who help themselves. If Ireland et al are too stupid to realize what they’re doing, let their dwindling progeny get used to the Muslim way of life.

I’m part Irish but the paddies can go to hell, or rather, enjoy the hell they’ve thrust upon themselves.

Death?

Life?

It’s extraordinary where some people stand and are willing to fight.

God help us all.

Didn’t exit polls show Hillary in the lead here in our elections?

Ireland's electorate went from 65% pro-life to 65+% pro-death since 1985.

Somebody explain this to me. The pro-abort slogan was

"Trust Irish women."

Seriously, what does that even mean? "Trust" usually means "Trust to do the right thing." I trust they did their best. I trust you didn't take my wallet.

But here "Trust" means--- what? Trust they'll only get 'necessary' abortions? ("Save the mother's life' abortions were already legal.) "Trust they won't kill the good Irish babies, only the bad Irish babies?

Can we abolish traffic laws in Ireland, because we can "Trust the Irish"?

Can we abolish anti-rape laws in Ireland, because men should be able to do what they want with their own bodies? And they'll only rape women who need to be raped? "Trust the men"?

Evey law that exisst, exists because there are some people who will aggress against somebody else, or take advantage of somebody else, or act recklessly against somebody else, unless that 'somebody else' is protected by law.

This damned referendum will do what British oppression, Cromwell, war, genocide-level starvation and deportation could not do in 500 years: it will kill Ireland.

He doesn’t care because he won’t see the destruction that this will cause as others pointed out Muslims will replace the murdered babies. The pope will be dead.

Pro-life absolutism today is not a politically-winning position and even going forward from here, Ireland will continue to maintain many restrictions on abortion.

You can't say, "I am against all abortion for any reason" and expect to win in a modern democratic society.

Life=Life was the position that passed by 66.9% back in 1985, when Ireland was a "modern, democratic society" and the Irish enthusiastically marched, cheered and voted for their pro-life Amendment 8. So it's not true that a Prolife, Life=Life position cannot be a politically-winning position. It was, and it did.

Something disastrous has happened in Ireland in just the last 35 years. Much ink will be spilt over this, and many articles written. At present about 7,000 Irish women per year go across the Irish sea to snuff their babies in Liverpool (a certain class of right-thinking, progressive Brits have always been up for shedding Irish blood) --- but the sheer volume of Irish-baby-slaughter will skyrocket following this disastrous vote to revoke the 8th.

Limitations? Like after Roe vs Wade? Let's see what the Irish Times will have to say about that.

1985 was a generation ago. Ireland was a poor country, mired by civil war. The women who voted yesterday to repeal Amendment 8 weren't even born yet.

That's true. The last generation to benefit from the protection of Constitutional law --- such that they were allowed to simply go on living ---- voted against that law.

Saw a statement from an abortion-supporter (and, wincingly, new father) who said Ireland will now be "more tolerant, more inclusive."

...Yeah. All for "inclusive," raise your hand.

Jeremiah 31:15

Verse ConceptsThus says the LORD, “A voice is heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping Rachel is weeping for her children; She refuses to be comforted for her children, Because they are no more.”

My heart is broken.... I weep this day.

There hardly seems to have been opposition. Ireland sucks politically, no major conservative party (only a tiny one).

They had some headline photo with some young woman (with the side of her head completely shaved) in ecstatic joy over the pro-infanticide vote. I was thinking, yes, that really shows the kind of stable and moral wisdom that one would expect from someone who would do that to themselves.
