VATICAN CITY Five years ago, Pope Francis was elected to be an agent of change within a church shaken by scandals and the historic resignation of Benedict XVI. He quickly became a global force in geopolitics, setting the agenda on climate change and care for migrants. World leaders wanted to be near him. Even non-Catholics adored him.
Today, Francis is increasingly embattled. The political climate has shifted abruptly around the world, empowering populists and nationalists who oppose much of what he stands for. Conservative forces arrayed against him within the Vatican have been emboldened, seeking to thwart him on multiple fronts.

Is this pope catholic?
Does a bear shitte in the wilderness?
Sometimes an entity going too far from its roots is a cleansing experience as it wakes the people up.
This pope won’t live forever and we need to pressure Cardinals to make it clear we want a Pope that actually adheres to Catholicism.
Pope Marx.
Remember, Benedict was pushed out in a Vatican putsch.
Your questions do not have the same answer. And the bear does indeed relieve himself in the wilderness.
The truth is that it is Frankie who is the enemy of tried and true Catholic morality. Most of his buds that he has placed into the most important positions of authority are themselves corrupt, mostly by either harboring or participating in homosexual activity.
Frankie is using an old Alinsky tactic - accuse your enemies (think Cardinal Pell) of what you yourself are already doing (think Paglia) so that they (the conservatives) will get the media hit and when it is found out that you are doing what you accused your enemy of doing, well it then won't seem so bad.
Frankie has no idea what kind of a bulwark Our Lord has planned against him.
Worst pope in my lifetime.
He’s a Commie leftard politician first and foremost, being a real pope is not high on his list of priorities.
I honestly would not be shocked if he pronounced that he’s “pro choice.”
And even that would be arguable. While the Medici clan was corrupt, they at least defended the church against the Mohammedans.
There was a reason why a Jusuit was never made pope. The lost the faith couple hundred years ago. Bergoglio has been an unmitigated disaster.
He’s a Cafeteria Catholic.
Pope St. John Paul II was an extraordinary Holy Man.
Pope Benedict XVI is an extraordinary intellectual.
Bergoglio is a very ordinary Jesuit.
Great News, and from the New York Times, yet.
Q Anon hints that May will be a rough month for the False Pope.
The worst insult I can think of, is that he does not even make a good Jesuit. He makes a bad Jesuit.
At least St. Ignatius meant well when he founded the order.
I doubt he would approve of Francis trying to force his opinion on us about many things that are not his business. He should not be even talking about material issues.
He completely lost it when he went to Lund to honor Martin Luther- an arch heretic. We read today that the Episcopal Grace Cathedral in San Francisco engaging in an idolatry “mass” of Beyonce with nearly 1000 in attendance. Just one of the thousands of monstrosities (Creflo Dollar; Joel Osteen; Rev. Jeremiah Wright; Jimmy Swaggart etc) that was spawned by Luther.
As a Catholic, I am so sorry that this man was thrust upon us, at this critical time in our lives when we have so many other problems to consider.
Perhaps this is a test to see just how strong our Faith is.
That thought is what helps keep my sanity.
He never said it would be easy.
Best answer for #2 based on #1: Your bear is constipated.
benedict was involved in writing the catechism. franky hasn’t even read the cliff notes. he should read 1035 before his next interview with his friend.
By your way of thinking your sect spawned Luther so you guys are just as responsible as you think Luther is for all that garbage. See how that works?
“Conservative forces arrayed against him within the Vatican have been emboldened, seeking to thwart him on multiple fronts.” What is this guy talking about? If anything the Jesuit pro-gay, anti-tradition progressives are silencing the conservative voices in the Church. Amoris Laetitia is being shoved down our throats. Sorry New York Times, but as hard as Pope Francis will try, he will not fundamentally change Church teaching.
