The Damascus Event that Brings Russia, Iran, and Turkey to War with Israel [Isaiah 17]

Isaiah 17:1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. 2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. 3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts. 4 And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean. 5 And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim. 6 Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel. 7 At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel. 8 And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images. 9 In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation. 10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips: 11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow. 12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! 13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. 14 And behold at eveningtide* trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

The Prophet Isaiah foresaw the utter destruction of Damascus; a city removed from the earth. No longer recognizable, the city becomes a ruinous heap. While complete destruction has occurred in the past to other cities (e.g. Sodom, Gamorrah, Pompeii, Saint-Pierre, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Nineveh, etc.), it has never occurred in the history of Damascus. Despite years of civil war, Damascus still has the unique distinction of being the "oldest continuously inhabited city" in the world. Given the current WMD war raging in Syria, the possibility of Damascus' destruction may be closer to fulfillment than ever.

Isaiah implicates Israel as being the cause of the destruction of Damascus by showing the result of this act is that the "glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean". Why would Israel do this? Could it be Israel's fear of Chemical, Biological, or Nuclear Attack? It certainly has been no secret that the Assad regime has sought, and used, weapons of mass destruction in the recent past. In fact, were it not for Israel's destruction of a North Korea provided Nuclear Reactor in Syria in 2007, Syria may have Nuclear Weapons today!

If Israel pushes the button and destroys Damascus, what will be the outcome? As stated earlier, world opinion seems to turn against Israel for this "heinous act" (even though many nations have done so and would do so in this situation including the USA). Secondly, Isaiah seems to indicate that an alliance of nations forms a coalition to fight Israel, "12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! 13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off...".

Who are these nations? Well, given the current coalition building at Israel's northern border, it appears that Russia, Iran, and Turkey are the main antagonists (and an assortment of other Islamic nations). This coalition matches "nation for nation" the coalition against Israel in Ezekiel 38-39. Notice it does not end well for those nations, for the God of Israel intervenes...(To be continued)

No, I don’t think so. It would be like Nagasaki, sparking a regional war with Iran, Russia, Turkey...(Ezekiel 38)

Good post and great timing!
Been studying Prophecy for well over a decade and this situation is surreal!
Folks who haven’t done so had better call on the Lord.

If I am wrong, I will admit it, and I hope I am, but I am not sure U.S. attacks on Assad will end well over the medium term. If the devastation is just right, but not total, I fear recovery will be in the hands of Russia and Iran, not Assad, and they will remain. They will also give more room to Erdogan to have his way with the Kurds. For now the alliance of Turkey-Russia-Iran will be strengthened, minus Assad. Russia will not even have to retaliate, they only have to remain.
