The Jews who heard the Messiah’s teaching that whoever eats His flesh and drinks His blood has eternal life could not confirm that in the scriptures. It has to be accepted by faith. Millions of Protestants who reject the Catholic/Orthodox teaching handed down through the long centuries do not even agree with each other, let alone with the Jews.

You make the point about understanding the context of a passage.

The point of the passage is we come to Christ in faith...not a literal eating/drinking of His flesh and blood.

Else He would not have said at the Passover meals...do this in remembrance of Me.

If we are to believe the Roman Catholic position then we have to believe Jesus lied to everyone He talked to prior to this encounter.

It would nullify completely John 3:14-18.

Paul also lied to everyone when he wrote about coming to Christ in faith.

No, even His own disciples turned away and walked with Him no more. It was a "hard saying" that they could not reconcile with their scripture study. It is not the context of a passage, or the point of the passage that is the problem. This is the same mistake. Only a simple child like faith suffices, followed by producing fruit. They did not believe Him, and tried to find the context and point that would allow them to believe Him. They could not and rejected the hard teaching.
