‘All I can see the advantage for someone coming out is to announce to new potential partners that they are available.’
gee, ya think...?
Archbishop Listecki seems to rather weakly and obliquely assume that the priest has continued in faithfulness --- which in this case would mean abstinence from any sexual gratification whatsoever---- when he says " As priests who have made a promise to celibacy, we know ..."
But it's all very coy. Neither man mentioned this obligation of abstinence. And if the priest IS abstinent, what compels him, now, adopt "gay" as an identifier?
When does he "come out" as chaste?
That's the problem with the "openly gay" Protestant clergy. All that I've read about are also openly "partnered." They don't even hint at being celibate. They have declared people with who they commit actual sodomy.
Yeah...
You’re exactly right. They don’t cover it up because they don’t think it’s a sin.
So headquarters covering up sin is the better option?
“Hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue.”
Merry Christmas, metmom.
Call no man father.
And...
"Gay," in this day and age, has a specific meaning. It is more than experiencing same-sex attraction. It implies ADVOCACY and participation.
Regardless, would a pedophile priest be accepted even though he was "celibate" and took a vow not to molest?
The bible makes it very clear. Sin is original and universal. People are all sinners. Its a matter of what we can stop ourselves from doing. Its a matter of what good we can do. But the good we think of but don’t do is not a plus. And the bad we stop ourselves from doing is.
The following has nothing to do with your post ---but Merry Christmas back at'cha! --- I'm starting to use FR as my interesting facts filing system. In a manner of speaking.

Israel and Water
Here is some perspective from George Gilder whose book, The Israel Test, is must-reading for understanding why good relations with Israel benefits every nation.
"There's a view that the Middle East faces an impossible water predicament," author George Gilder told an American Freedom Alliance conference last week. "In reality, the water crisis is bogus."
He pointed out that Israel resolved its water problems by using the talents of its entrepreneurs. "Since 1948 Israel's population is up 10-fold, arable land threefold, agriculture output 16-fold, industrial output 50-fold, yet net water usage dropped 10%," Gilder said.
The country recycles 83% of its own water, buys sewage from the Palestinians to turn into usable water, invented drip irrigation and is the world leader in desalinization. These have made Israel close to self-sufficient in water ever since it freed its economy in 1995.
Quite interesting data!
For some reason, this info really delights me. Not Jewish and not Israeli, still I feel a thrill of excitement about Israel´s accomplishments.
Happy 2nd day of Christmas,
Belated Happy Hannukah, and
Oy to the World!
Yes sadly I’m the 1960s the church let openly gay but non practicing homosexuals into the priesthood, and that began the path to the child sexual abuse that happened for the next several decades and was covered up as homosexuals infiltrated many diocese and covered up for these men to protect the fact they too were trading homosexual sex acts and other things for position and power within the church hierarchy.
The church let the fox into the Hen house and will be paying the price for generations. Homosexuals are a cancer in the church, they control many diocese. Trade sexual favors and destroy anyone who speaks up against them.
Good grief. I’d boot both of them out.
