This is certainly surprising!
During a recent Friday night service, a pastor at New Life Church, an evangelical Protestant megachurch in Colorado Springs, CO, reportedly led the congregation in something you wouldnt normally expect: the Sign of the Cross and a prayer of a consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Redditer /u/MarvelDCgoodwithme, who is Catholic, explained on the /r/Catholicism subreddit that his Protestant mother attends the church and thought the prayer sounded Catholic. So she took pictures of a few of the slides with the prayer, which you can see at the bottom of this article.
And sure enough, its a prayer for consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus composed by Pope Leo XIII in 1899! The slides also have a picture of the statue of St. Peter in St. Peters Square at the Vatican.
She said it happened after the sermon, the redditer explained in a private message, the pastor presented the slides and asked the congregation to read the prayer and if they agreed with it to pray it with him. The pastor also closed his prayers with the sign of the cross.
Weve reached out to New Life Church to learn more about their thinking in using the prayer but havent yet received a response.
New Life Church was founded in 1984 and has about 10,000 members. It was in the news in the early 2000s when its founding pastor Ted Haggard admitted to using drugs and regularly visiting a male escort. He was also later accused of making unwanted sexual advances on a young man in his 20s at the church. After Haggard was dismissed from his position, the church appointed a new pastor Brady Boyd who has since greatly expand the churchs reach.

Not a fact and besides, I. DON’T. CARE. if “Protestants” agree with me or not.
What they think is irrelevant.
Answer the question and quit sidestepping it.
Your evasion is duly and widely noticed.
Yes, we certainly do serve an AWESOME God! He lavishes His grace upon us, Scripture says.
What better way to keep poor souls coming back to the church for their “fill-ups”, right?
Yes, it kept me coming back everyday when I was in Catholic school, and weekly when I was out. I was not a self satisfied Catholic, thinking that somewhere along the line, I would be ok. Not on your life. I was scared ALL the time, that I would croak and my grace gas tank would be empty. Not a very good way to live is it?
BTW SkyP. I think there are two kinds of people in the world. Those who were involved in aviation, like us, and those who wish they were. 😇😁
The difference between mortal and venial sins appears to be simply a matter of "intent". Miss Mass because you're tired and want to sleep in - venial. Miss Mass regularly - mortal. Tell a "white" lie - venial. Tell a big lie - mortal. Mom says it's a sin to use profanity, but some FRoman Catholics use swear words pretty regularly and my Dad said he liked the Catholic priests because he'd be out golfing with them and they told dirty jokes. A lot of hypocrisy and wiggle room in that religion.
But Rome's definition of grace is SO much different than what is plainly found in the bible.
25 When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, Rabbi, when did you get here?
26 Jesus answered, Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.
28 Then they asked him, What must we do to do the works God requires?
29 Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.
30 So they asked him, What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 31 Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.[c]
32 Jesus said to them, Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.
34 Sir, they said, always give us this bread.
35 Then Jesus declared, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Fathers will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
Contend for the faith; Brother!
Jude 1:3
I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God's holy people
Proverbs 26:4-5
4 Dont answer the foolish arguments of fools, or you will become as foolish as they are.
5 Be sure to answer the foolish arguments of fools, or they will become wise in their own estimation.
Dang!
What’s a fella to do??
I do.
Yet; here you are...
1 Peter 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to every man who asketh you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.
1) I have never shown any ignorance of Scripture.
Very true, and it confuses the heck out of the average Catholic who goes to a priest and asks them why the Bible is saying one thing, but the Roman Catholic Church is telling them something else. So the church will sit them down and say:
"Oh, you have it all wrong! We Catholics believe in grace too! It's just that you have understand it properly you poor child! Don't listen to those dangerous Evangelicals who will try to fill your little head with all these silly and wild notions about how you only need Christ alone and you don't need the Roman Catholic Church for salvation! Lies! All lies!"
Still; when you've got ME on the case; ya sure don't need a posse; Andy!!
A Prot that gets it!!!

What a complete load of garbage. Any one that leaves the Catholic Church does not understand the Catholic Church and by definition has unanswered questions. Anyone that truly understand the Catholic Church would be begging for admittance. Those that leave make all sorts of excuses or rationalizations similar to the spewing of yours above, but they are just trying to convince themselves.
So THIS is where MormonISM gets it from!!
Well we agree there.
One of my criticisms of some worship music is that is sometimes too "Up With People" in its delivery.
Some of the modern Christian worship songs are awful. My wife and I call them "7-11" songs, because they repeat the same seven words eleven times.
Now this is one area where I believe the RCC had something right - to wit - we should ensure we give God the reverence He is due. The RCC still enshrines God with that reverence, and so did almost all the old style Hymns of mainline Protestant denomiations from years ago. Today, almost all (not all, but most) Christians churches have modern worship services.
Is God personal? Absolutely - and that relationship with Christ is at the heart of being saved. We know Christ, and He knows us.
For many, they think they are in God's family, but they are not.
Matthew 7:21-23
21 Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? 23 And then will I declare to them, I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.
But a believer in Jesus knows Him. However, I still try and give Him the respect and awesome reverence that He is due.
An acquaintance of mine used to refer to Christ as "My buddy JC" - and it bothered me to no end.
