I am not sure where the Rabbis got that nonsense, but that is what it was. You have the Book of Jasher, so turn to Chapter 23. There is also some setup at the end of Chapter 22.

Sarah is in Hebron because Satan had told her that Abraham had sacrificed Isaac and she had gone to look for them. When she gets to Hebron, Satan comes and tells her that he lied and Isaac is not dead. Then her joy was so exceedingly violent on account of her son, that her soul went out through joy; she died and was gathered to her people.

Abraham and Isaac get home, and are told Sarah went to Hebron looking for them.

And now, you know the rest of the story. ;-)

Ok look at it this way .
We know that the Scriptures are inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Ask yourself why did the Holy Spirit deem it unimportant to give us the details of why and how Sarah died ?

We know that Sarah knows God , we know she is saved just like Abraham is.
We know that everyone that is born will one day die yet the Holy Spirit does include the details of Sarah’s death in the Scriptures .

Why does not the Holy Spirit include this in the Scriptures ? Because it’s trivial and I don’t mean it in a bad way to lesson Sarah’s death . It’s a trivial detail because the Holy Spirit is pointing us to what Abraham is doing as typology of the Messiah .

The import detail in the whole story is that God “himself” will provide the lamb . You have Abraham (the father ) sacrificing Issac (his son)in the very place that God himself (the Father) will sacrifice his only begotten Son thousands of years later .God himself provides the lamb.
That is the import detail in the entire story , the typology of their Messiah that will die for their sins. All other knowledge about this event is trivial and that is why the Holy Spirit didn’t include it .

The bible is a Hebrew book and the Hebrew view prophesy as a pattern not like gentile mind thinks that prophecy is said done and finished . Typology is very important because all the typologies point to Messiah . Too many trivial details and you don’t dig in the Scripture and you miss what the Holy Spirit is trying to teach you .
