Many will see the title to this post and assume that its hyperbole. Others, like perhaps most regular readers of this space, will answer the question aloud in the affirmative even before reading what follows.
After all, it certainly wasnt the influence of Almighty God that moved Pope John Paul II to orchestrate the Assisi events, to take part in pagan rituals, and to publicly pray for the intercession of St. John the Baptist to protect Islam.
Even so, the thing that moves me to pose this question here today is a video (below) that a friend recently shared on Facebook. It shows footage of the Polish pope at a gathering with high school students in New York at Madison Square Garden in 1979.
Please, take a look.

Did you even read the full article? Because it wasn’t about JPII not being a “perfect human being”. It was a lot more involved than that. It involved his teachings, not just his questionable behaviors.
I don’t need to read the article.
I am familiar with both the blog it came from, and your posts about Catholicism here on FR.

Of course you don’t. The truth might hurt.
Influence or attack?
Oh, I see. The mods ought to realize that islam is NOT a religion!!
I’m more familiar with Belloc’s sister, Marie Belloc-Lowndes who wrote The Lodger. I’ll have to check him out.
I’m not Catholic, but I think JPII was an exceptional man as was Reagan. Thatcher was an exceptional lady.
JP2 refused outright to take action when confronted repeatedly by victims of pedophile priests. The people who did not and still do not hold JP2 accountable for that are the exact same people who brought about Communist Pope Francis and every single one of them has echos of that same mentality.
End of story.
Tell that non threatening Islam thing to the Christian majority population of Lebanon, who dwelt there before the Islamic war in the late seventies.
You not paying a thimble full of attention to Islam is not in any way, shape, or form the same thing as Islam not being a threat.
Winston Churchill recognized the potential threat in Islam and described it when JP2 was a young man. JP2 knew intellectually what Islam is, but still defended it.
Exactly. If you want to see what the future holds, read up on the history of Lebanon.
Do you talk to folks in LOW PLACES for help?
Just asking.
The one on Pope John Paul II seemed to be directed by the KGB.
The one on Ronald Reagan was apparently by a crazy person.
JPII kissed the Koran because his religion was the Religion of Ecumenism which does not come from God.
Diabolical?
How silly. He was playing along with the excitement and waiting for the teenagers to calm down enough that he could begin without long outbursts interfering with his speaking.
He had been through this before.
That’s the best explanation I’ve heard. I remember the first time I saw the pic of JPII kissing the Koran. My eyes bugged out of my head. I was more naive then, but I knew that Christians must never give legitimacy to false religions. That hurts everyone. Less mature Christians get the idea that other religions are an acceptable option. The practitioners of false religions are led to believe we approve of their fatal error. In the case of Islam, they can even surmise we condone their slaughter of non-Muslims, etc.
I suppose, it being JPII, no one with any authority or influence ever questioned him on it. That would be a shame. We all need lovingly imparted edification from time to time. For some, it’s harder to come by than for others.
Just so you know, I don't necessarily think this is evidence that he was under demonic influence. I know that most assume I agree with that because I posted it.
I am much more concerned with his non-Catholic teachings and actions.
“JPII was an exceptional man as was Reagan.”
Already there’s a gap in history and the usual Catholic haters here. While the Church has fallen on hard times as Malachi Martin wrote, it will in the end not fall.
The Bible says so and I believe truth will prevail. Unfortunately the story of how Reagan, Thatcher and Pope John Paull II worked to take out the biggest evil in our lifetime has never really been told to the wider public.
A real shame that.
John the Baptist, if still in bodily form, would rather have his head cut off before praying for the protection of a false, diabolical religion.
So, no, Saint John the Baptist did no such thing.
