Theologian: Soon "breakthrough" for a common supper

Wolfgang Huber, former Council President of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), believes in a "breakthrough" at the communion of Protestants and Catholics to the Ecumenical Church Day of 2021. "I can not imagine that we will celebrate this church day without A breakthrough has been achieved in the area of Eucharistic hospitality, "said the former bishop of Berlin in the interview of the" Weser-Kurier "(Saturday). Until the event in Frankfurt am Main 2021 something must move.

"Machistort des Papstes" less promising

According to Huber, the next steps in the Eucharist and the Lord's Supper will be "decentralized". "My feeling is that Pope Francis wants to broaden the scope of individual bishops' conferences for ecumenically relevant decisions, and sees this path as a more promising one as a central path for the whole world church and a breakthrough through a pope's power," said Huber.

The former bishop of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Oberlausitz was 75 years old on Saturday. Berlin's Archbishop Heiner Koch congratulated him with a congratulatory letter: Koch thanked him especially for the "strong accents" which he had placed both in the Protestant church and in the ecumenism. He praised Huber as a "strong integrator" and recalled that the fusion of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg with the Evangelical Church of the Silesian Oberlausitz fell in his office in 2004.

Huber was born on 12 August 1942 in Strasbourg. From 1994 to 2009 he was a bishop of Berlin, and from 2003 to 2009 he was the presidency of the Evangelical Church in Germany. Before that, he was himself president of the church. In his own words, however, it was self-evident for him to leave the office before his bishop's election. "For me the church day movement is characterized by the fact that it is a lay movement that cooperates with the Church, but on the basis of reciprocal freedom", he explained. At the Kirchentag this year in Berlin and Wittenberg you got the feeling of a joint event. "From the old counterpart of the church and the church day nothing was visible to the outside." He wanted something more friction, however. "Friction generates fire," says Huber. (JHE / KNA)

Boy is that guy in for a surprise come Judgment Day.

How do you think Catholics will feel, when they have to spend eternity, standing right beside you in Heaven? Do you think we will still have our theological discussions in Heaven, the way we do now? 😁😊

Can we have three cheers for assurance of salvation? 🤣

Well, anyone who thinks that no one is getting to heaven but their group is not making it because they are trusting someone or something else than Jesus.

Salvation is NOT dependent on religion or denominational affiliation.

Sad to say, those people will not be next to me in heaven.

They’ll be hoping that the burning they are feeling is purgatory that they always believed in and counted on. Their problem is, an eternity of burning still would never cleanse the sin that only the blood of Christ applied to the life can accomplish.

Why do you hold that Jesus was lying when he told the apostles that he was giving them the power to forgive sins.

“Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you shall forgive they are forgiven them. Whose sins you shall retain they are retained.”

Why do you call Jesus a liar?

Why do you...a Roman Catholic trained priest (?) not understand the Scriptures and what this text is really saying?

Not only that they’ve got a good number of the ECFs who say Peter was not the rock.

“It’s not that the apostles were given the privilege of changing God’s mind, as if whatever they decided on earth would be duplicated in heaven; rather, they were encouraged that, as they moved forward in their apostolic duties, they would be fulfilling God’s plan in heaven. “

“When the apostles “bound” something, or forbade it on earth, they were carrying out the will of God in the matter. When they “loosed” something, or allowed it on earth, they were likewise fulfilling God’s eternal plan. In both Matthew 16:19 and 18:18, the syntax of the Greek text makes the meaning clear: “Whatever thou mayest bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever thou mayest loose upon the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens” (Matthew 16:19, Young’s Literal Translation).”

Nothing there about forgiving sins Arthur.

“The second part of each conditional clause in this verse is in the passive voice and the perfect tense in the Greek text. The passive voice indicates that someone has already done the forgiving or retaining. That person must be God since He alone has the authority to do that (Matt. 9:2–3; Mark 2:7; Luke 5:21). The perfect tense indicates that the action has continuing effects; the sins stand forgiven or retained at least temporarily if not permanently.

“Jesus appears to have been saying that when His disciples went to others with the message of salvation, as He had done, some people would believe and others would not. Reaction to their ministry would be the same as reaction to His had been. He viewed their forgiving and retaining the sins of their hearers as the actions of God’s agents. If people (“any” or “anyone,” plural Gr. tinon) believed the gospel, the disciples could tell the believers that God had forgiven their sins. If they disbelieved, they could tell them that God had not forgiven but retained their sins. Jesus had done this (cf. 9:39–41), and now His disciples would continue to do it. Thus their ministry would be a continuation of His ministry relative to the forgiveness of sins, as it would be in relation to the Spirit’s enablement. This, too, applies to all succeeding generations of Jesus’ disciples since Jesus was still talking about the disciples’ mission.

Not what you claim Arthur.

Purgatory is in Colorado. I never skied there, but I know a couple who did. There is NO other Purgatory. 😀😆

37Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” 38Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39“For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” 40And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!” 41So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. 42They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. NASB Acts 2:37-42 NASB

The first instance of Peter exercising the binding and loosing.

Why do posts that accuse another of lying not get removed and posts that don’t make anything personal do?

The mystery of the ages.

Not only that they’ve got a good number of the ECFs who say Peter was not the rock.

I don't even think Peter's confession of faith, is the rock. I think Jesus Christ is the Rock:

Jesus Christ is the Rock of ages, the Rock of our salvation and the Rock that when smitten brought forth a spring of living water to quench the thirst of all men who believe on Him.

O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Psalms 95:1

He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. Deuteronomy 32:4

And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 1 Cor 10:4.
There are other verses identifying Christ as the Rock, but these are some of them.

When He told Peter, thought art Peter, He referred to himself as the Rock, not Peter. Some may not agree, but such is life. 😇🇵🇭

Thanks again - some out there have trouble with the concept of Christ having paid our price if we only accept Him as our Lord and Savior and will go through all sorts of gyrations to make what He did not good enough w/o human mortals to “seal the deal”.

Exactly. I also like to note that Paul, who had met the risen Jesus and had a step up on most of us as far as motivation, lamented about still doing the things he knew he shouldn't do and not doing that which he knew he should do.

The Bible also tells us, the poor in spirit are blessed and the kingdom of Heaven is theirs. Most that I know believe that means those who have been saved but who recognize that their sinful nature is still alive and well and who lament like Paul because they wish they could be better for Him and honor His gift better.

Yep - ironic how folks will cherry pick to try to justify their religion.

Catholics seem to think their priests and saints will put them over the top and that no one else is worthy of being saved - ignoring that nobody is worthy w/o His gift and that the Jews were His original target and us "dogs" were allowed the incredible crumbs of salvation.
