Venezuelan Bishops Pray to Virgin Mary to Free the Country from the ‘Claws of Communism’

The Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) has publicly invoked the intercession of the Virgin Mary to free the nation “from the claws of communism,” in a clear reference to the regime of President Nicolás Maduro.

“Blessed Virgin, Mother of Coromoto, heavenly Patron of Venezuela, free our country from the claws of communism and socialism,” the CEV posted on Twitter this Sunday, complete with an image of Santa Maria and a Venezuelan flag.

My understanding doesn't matter a hill of beans.

The Church has always, always taught the Communion of the Saints since Christians were scratching evidence of it on the catacomb walls: that the saved are alive in Christ and can be entreated for their help and prayers.

But let's suppose it was just my understanding. And that I arrived at it *from this passage of Scripture*. How do you dare claim for yourself the absolute right to base your Christianity on Scripture alone, and then deny that right to me?

Yet when the NT writers wrote about prayer it was directed to God. Paul encouraged fellow believers who had not departed this earth to pray for each other. There are no NT writings calling upon those who've gone before us.

So no....the church has not always taught what you claim. Roman Catholicism perhaps....but not the NT church.

But let's suppose it was just my understanding. And that I arrived at it *from this passage of Scripture*. How do you dare claim for yourself the absolute right to base your Christianity on Scripture alone, and then deny that right to me?

I don't deny you that right. However, you're on record as saying.

My understanding doesn't matter a hill of beans.

My positions are completely fallible. That’s why I NEVER rely on them. I rely on what has been taught since the beginning, by the great majority of churches, everywhere around the world, and confirmed by the successor to St. Peter, the head of the Apostles. The minute I find my position wrong, I *change my position*.

Such fantasies about Mary.

2. Because Mary remained hidden during her life she is called by the Holy Spirit and the Church "Alma Mater", Mother hidden and unknown. So great was her humility that she desired nothing more upon earth than to remain unknown to herself and to others, and to be known only to God.

If she had such a strong desire to remain anonymous, then why doesn't the Catholic church honor that?

3. In answer to her prayers to remain hidden, poor and lowly, God was pleased to conceal her from nearly every other human creature in her conception, her birth, her life, her mysteries, her resurrection and assumption. Her own parents did not really know her; and the angels would often ask one another, "Who can she possibly be?", for God had hidden her from them, or if he did reveal anything to them, it was nothing compared with what he withheld.

And all that information that he had come from where? If it was all to be hidden, how did he find out about it?

Maybe too much of that there incense they wave around in church.......

If Jesus is Mary’s Savior, then she was a sinner, just like the rest of us.

IOW, she SINNED, just like the rest of us.

Even though Mary was his faithful spouse, God the Holy Spirit willed that his apostles and evangelists should say very little about her and then only as much as was necessary to make Jesus known.

Then what'd she get married to Joseph for?

I'll bet that was news to him.

She was preserved from sin by the One whom she worshiped as "God, my Savior"--- her Savior and ours --- Who did great things for her.

IOW, she had no free will.

Kinda makes it hard to explain why she was with the other believers in the Upper Room doesn't it?

Or that she showed up at a wedding in Cana, and either on her own initiative or the request of someone, asked Jesus to do something about it.

Or when she came looking for Him with His brothers cause they thought he was out of His mind and they wanted to take Him home.

Mary the mother of Jesus as documented in the New Testament and “The Lady” referenced by Claud and understood to mean Mary the mother of Jesus, are two entirely different personalities. At least, historically, they are not the same person.

Not so. Mary was preserved from the corruption of Original Sin. As for personal sin, she, though sinless like original-Eve, could have sinned, like Eve, if she had chosen to.

She was a person, not a predestinational sock puppet.

Everybody in this forum claims the Bible for their source. I have multiple often-clicked Bibles and bible-search sites my bookmarks file, plus the dog-eared ones on my desk.

But your answer is disingenuous. It's a question of interpretation. You have some interpretations that pret'near all Christians would agree with, some that some Christians would agree with, and some --- I'm making a wild guess here --- that precious few would agree with.

That's why there is unrelenting controversy among Christians. That's practically the raison d'etre of the Religion Forum.

Inaccurate. An exaggeration. Not true.

Mrs.D...I will say this. Roman Catholicism has done a very good job indoctrinating you.

Sadly though, Roman Catholicism's understanding of the Scriptures on "all have sinned" have not been.

I'll post it again though.

The texts cited by Roman Catholics do not support the claim of sinlessness on Mary's part.

As the Catholic Encyclopedia notes: "No direct or categorical and stringent proof of the dogma can be brought forward from Scripture."

Roman Catholics like to claim their beliefs are grounded in Scripture. Yet, here we have the CE admitting there is no support in Scripture for the IC.

Even "Tradition" is called into question as some very notable ECFs say Mary sinned.

So obviously this was not a universal teaching passed down from the Apostles.

A serious question. Why do you continue to persist in this belief when the CE admits it is not found in Scripture and is not part of "Apostolic" Tradition?

Did God really say....?

It's the oldest trick in the book.

Yes it is. Too bad so many fall for the lies of the evil one. Praise God, He has seen fit to reveal the truth to some of us. 🙃😀

Christianity, yes....Roman Catholicism....no.

The Roman Catholic cannot point to much of Roman Catholicism in the Bible. That's why ya'll tell us you have "Sacred Tradition".

I guess that explains the myriad of writings about Mary, the churches built in her honor, the apparitions claiming to be Mary, all of the idols of her, etc.

Somehow they didn't get the message as claimed by Montfort.

I bet it was a bit of a surprise to the natural born children of Mary and Joseph too. 😀😆

Everybody in this forum claims the Bible for their source.

But yet you refuse to believe it. Why is that?

Time and time again, for years even, you've gone to the mat over the words of sinful men, claiming, 'Tradition!'

And time and time again you reject out of hand what God's word says.

I did the same when I was a Catholic, so I understand. Things are different now. 😄😀😂

Perhaps this topic is a bit too far off the subject of this particular thread. Continuing on a thread of its own would probably be more appropriate.

And what "topic" is it that you think is too far off the subject of this thread? It has to do with the Catholic dogmas of the Virgin Mary. Do we seriously need another thread on that??? I don't think so, but if you don't want to address the words I used and your accusations of it being "AC (anti-Catholic) pretzel logic and mental gymnastics", then either say so or button up. Besides, I'm sure another Mary thread will come along before we know it - it's inevitable.
