Venezuelan Bishops Pray to Virgin Mary to Free the Country from the ‘Claws of Communism’

The Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) has publicly invoked the intercession of the Virgin Mary to free the nation “from the claws of communism,” in a clear reference to the regime of President Nicolás Maduro.

“Blessed Virgin, Mother of Coromoto, heavenly Patron of Venezuela, free our country from the claws of communism and socialism,” the CEV posted on Twitter this Sunday, complete with an image of Santa Maria and a Venezuelan flag.

1. It was through the Blessed Virgin Mary that Jesus came into the world, and it is also through her that he must reign in the world.

2. Because Mary remained hidden during her life she is called by the Holy Spirit and the Church "Alma Mater", Mother hidden and unknown. So great was her humility that she desired nothing more upon earth than to remain unknown to herself and to others, and to be known only to God.

3. In answer to her prayers to remain hidden, poor and lowly, God was pleased to conceal her from nearly every other human creature in her conception, her birth, her life, her mysteries, her resurrection and assumption. Her own parents did not really know her; and the angels would often ask one another, "Who can she possibly be?", for God had hidden her from them, or if he did reveal anything to them, it was nothing compared with what he withheld.

Nothing specious or hidden about it, my FRiend. Here it is, the Messiah announced, the Incarnation foretold:

Genesis 3:15 King James Version (KJV) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

You presume too much.

I got what I printed from an e-mail from my fellow parishioner, Kendra D. As far as I know, she probably uses multiple sources (Scripture, scholars, apologists, the Catechism) which she puts together graciously for me.

I will repeat, modified, the plea I have repeated so often:

Don't tell me where I got my material. Ask me where I got my material. TELL me where you got yours.

Don't tell me what I believe. ASK me what I believe. TELL me what YOU believe. That would be more enriching for us all, more thoughtful, and if nothing else, certainly more accurate.

Seriously. But then there’s that nagging thought in my head: don’t worry, we may get there soon.

Although Venezuela was an okay place for a while, it wasn’t a LONG while. The U.S. has a much longer history of stability. Not that things couldn’t still blow, but it seems less probable.

One of the interesting things I read about Venezuela is that the anti-government protests are drawing many older men and women who figure they don’t have much to lose and are willing to die for a better chance for their grandchildren. As an (ahem) older person myself, that kind of gave me the chills.

I never said God rescinded Mary’s free will. Where do you get that?

Mary’s sinlessness does not make a “mockery” of God -— no more than Adam and Eve’s sinlessness did, when they were sinless in Paradise before the Fall. No more than Jesus’ sinlessness does, although he, too is a son of Adam. Son of Noah, son of Abraham, son of David, son of Mary. And son of God.

Jesus is Mary’s Savior. Savior! How is that a mockery of God?

That’s true, but I am judging less on past history than on current mores. At last count we are ticking off 3-4 of he Sins that Cry to Heaven for Vengeance. There’s only one thing that has a prayer of sorting us out, and that’s a Chastisement, capital C.

Don’t answer if this is too prying, but are you in the Boomer demographic? Because I’m Gen X and I really never expected to escape some kind of cataclysmic social upheaval. If it happens, it’ll be less chilling for me than a kind of resigned: “Nuts, I knew it.”

Of which there is ZERO substantiation in the NT regarding this. Indeed, it contradicts the NT.

Jesus is Mary’s Savior. Savior!

Yes! Agree. And if one recognizes they have a Savior, one recognizes one is in need of a Savior and that one is a sinner.

Demontfort said it and Popes honor Demontfort. So, does that mean Catholics are free to take it or leave it?

4. God the Father willed that she should perform no miracle during her life, at least no public one, although he had given her the power to do so. God the Son willed that she should speak very little although he had imparted his wisdom to her.

Even though Mary was his faithful spouse, God the Holy Spirit willed that his apostles and evangelists should say very little about her and then only as much as was necessary to make Jesus known.

5. Mary is the supreme masterpiece of Almighty God and he has reserved the knowledge and possession of her for himself. She is the glorious Mother of God the Son who chose to humble and conceal her during her lifetime in order to foster her humility. He called her "Woman" as if she were a stranger, although in his heart he esteemed and loved her above all men and angels. Mary is the sealed fountain and the faithful spouse of the Holy Spirit where only he may enter. She is the sanctuary and resting-place of the Blessed Trinity where God dwells in greater and more divine splendour than anywhere else in the universe, not excluding his dwelling above the cherubim and seraphim. No creature, however pure, may enter there without being specially privileged.

There are two ways to save a person from death by quicksand. One is to pull them out of the quicksand. The other way is to prevent someone who would otherwise have fallen in, from falling in.

Both people are saved, not as if by their own “merit”, but by the intervention of their rescuer, their savior.

You attempt to conflate Mary with our salvation.

Mary did not die on the Cross.

She was not the sacrifice given for us.

Her blood was not shed for our sins.

She does not defeat Satan.

Mary has nothing to do with our salvation.

I was born in 1966. I’ve always figured the big picture would remain stable, even through disaster at a personal level. Maybe it’s just a personal disposition: chirpy but fatalistic.

It would eliminate the confusion if you would cite the work as being your own or that you obtained it from someone else.

As you can tell, a lot of us recognize Keating's or Staples' apologetic arguments...weak as they are though.

Nah, the only problem I'm having with what you said, is with you, Doc.

Let me ask you this, are you the Lord?

Hopefully your scholarly Biblical explanations will open some eyes to the Truth.

So we must pray, though it seems like some post the same parroted propaganda again and again despite it being refuted each time. I actually suspect that some believe that they will obtain an indulgence for "defending the faith," as murderous men in Crusades were. Of course, there are more than a couple RCs on this forum who I believe wish for the days when Rome wielded the sword of men against the likes of us, and even would seek to be part of that unholy army.

No. Not even close. And that's why you won't catch me offering my own fool personal interpretations on here as if they were binding on the whole Christian world.
