I’ve never seen any “lavish displays of Mary” in or around any Catholic homes. So I “make” nothing of it.

That may be hard for the Roman Catholic to determine. Mary is everywhere in Roman Catholicism so it's probably the norm.

I'd be willing to bet there are more writings regarding Mary in Roman Catholicism than probably any other topic.
