Divorced and remarried folks shouldn't be living together. No matter what the excuse/reason for it, they are placing themselves in a near occasion of (mortal) sin. Catholic teaching is that we are obligated to avoid such occasions of sin.
As far as I can see, encouraging these folks to remain living together as "brother and sister" solves nothing at best and, at worst, places these souls in grave danger. I think the "new guidelines" are foolhardy and just another way to water down the Catholic Faith.
I didn’t bother to read the article because anyone with half a brain knows this kooky idea in a non-starter. The natural reason for anyone to marry is to have a close personal relationship with another person and that is going to include sex.
John 4:16 - 17 muddies the otherwise clear waters (for me) with Jesus’s conversation to the Samaritan woman at the well.
16. He told her, Go, call your husband and come back.
17 I have no husband, she replied.
Jesus said to her, You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.
So how does “the man you have now is not your husband” differentiate from her five husbands and which husband of the five was she to “Go, call...and return” with.
Why would Jesus acknowledge this woman to have five husbands if only one marriage is recognized by God (unless annulled or widowed)?
This rule is only for Catholics.
In the case of this article, the author does NOT speak for Christians, only those that are part of the Catholic denomination.
Those followers of Catholicism can follow this directive, but Christians do not have to.
We prefer the teachings of Jesus and His Word rather than those of Catholicism.
It’s one of the heights of arrogance of the Catholic Church to think they control the lives of all Christians.
How many times have we heard on this forum that EVERYONE needs to be in subjection to your Pope.
(Not to mention being told no one can be saved unless they are a part of the Catholic belief system denomination)
Now that many Catholics have abandoned accepting the current pope as legitimate, are they still in subjection to him?
After all he is your (Catholic’s) pope.
So can I now take it that Christians not a part of the Catholic church can have that false condition of subjection to the pope removed?
Being as many Catholics worldwide refuse to do so themselves.
Answer: IT'S NOT. It's Catholic Church doctrine, and it's not Biblicly based.
