It is based on the history of Christianity going back to the earliest Christians. Admittedly, much of that history has been lost, but there remains sufficient extant material to form a foundation of belief. Several evangelicals have come to believe the truth of Catholic teaching. On the other hand, there are several Catholics, including family members of mine, who could not accept the teachings of the Church. My family focuses on those beliefs that we hold in common. And they are many.
As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 13, we know in part. We all believe what makes the best sense to us.
“It is based on the history of Christianity going back to the earliest Christians. Admittedly, much of that history has been lost, but there remains sufficient extant material to form a foundation of belief.”

“On the other hand, there are several Catholics, including family members of mine, who could not accept the teachings of the Church.”
“My family focuses on those beliefs that we hold in common. And they are many.”
What else can you do? Family remains important. There is much Christians of any denomination hold in common.
There. I fixed it.
Wouldn't be nice if we on FR did this?
But; for some silly reason; we on either (or more) sides seem to want to CONTEND for the faith once given to the saints.
Most of us realize the TRUTH of the Scriptures where Jesus is recorded as saying:
Matthew 10:35-37
35 For I have come to turn A man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 A mans enemies will be the members of his own household. 37 Anyone who loves his father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me;
