“But she became His mother at a point in earthly time:

She carried him and provided for him and loved him. That is all.

“I think the reason people have his misconception, is that they don’t know the history of the term. The Church adopted the term in order to combat the heresy that there were two Jesuses, one God and one Man, and that the Jesus who was born from her was not God. (But that’s false. He’s not two people.)”

This sounds like a rationalization read back into history to justify the pagan belief of Mary as demigoddess.

Unless you can back up this claim with a citation of the decision making process.

Even then, good motives are never a reason to add to God’s Scripture.

“There is no reason why any Christian should hesitate to call Mary the Mother of God.”

Except that God not only hesitated, He didn’t do it!

"She carried him and provided for him and loved him. That is all."

Just to clarify something here: you're not one of those guys who says Mary isn't really Jesus' genetic mother, she was just a surrogate --- are you? I never ran into that in my entire life until I read it here from ONE person (who shall not be named) just a very short time ago.

But I don't think that's your position, is it?

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

...

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Isaiah, Catholic chapter seven, Protestant verse fourteen,
Matthew, Catholic chapter one, Protestant verses eighteen to twenty three,
as authorized, but not authored, by King James
    Matthew shows that
  1. Mary is the Virgin of Isaiah
  2. Mary is the mother of Jesus
  3. Jesus is Immanuel of Isaiah,
  4. Immanuel is equivalent to Emmanuel
  5. Both names mean "God with us"
  6. Mary is the mother of "God with us"

"God with us" is God, and in that sense Mary is the mother of God. Mary is the mother of Jesus, who is "God with us" and thus she is the mother of God.
