Evangelical Apologist Hank Hanegraaff Converts to Eastern Orthodoxy

Posted by: Rob Bowman

On Palm Sunday, April 9, 2017, Hank Hanegraaff formally joined the Orthodox Church. Since 1989 Hanegraaff has been the President of the Christian Research Institute (CRI) and (since ca. 1992) the host of CRI’s Bible Answer Man radio program.[1] Hank, his wife Kathy, and two of their twelve children were inducted by a sacramental rite called chrismation into the Orthodox faith at St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, near where CRI is based. In chrismation, a baptized individual is anointed with oil in order to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.[2]

All chrstians live in poverty because they reject the Torah (and Noachide Law).

Oh, here we go again. You want to drag the discussion away from Orthodoxy or Romanism or protestantism, and hijack the theme so you can talk about your Noachide Gentile splinter of Jewry. You really ought to publish this in a thread you create for it, eh?

Actually, if you really understood what an Evangelical Christian really believes and IS, you'd still be there, not off seeking Rabbi Adlerstein's advice, rather than that of Paul of Tarsus or Simon Peter.

Eh? Let's dispense with this now. Here's a brief summary of what your comment wants to introduce:

http://www.come-and-hear.com/editor/america_1.html

Your Noachide religion wants us to accept Talmudic law into our courts, the same way Islamists want us to introduce Sharia law, into a nation governed by Constitutional (Christian) law. For me, the answer is NO.

Peddle this guff in another thread, eh?

Context is something alien to Roman Catholicism.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

2089 Incredulity is the neglect of revealed truth or the willful refusal to assent to it.
       "Heresy is the obstinate post-baptismal denial of some truth which must be believed with divine and catholic faith, or it is likewise an obstinate doubt concerning the same;
        apostasy is the total repudiation of the Christian faith;
schism is the refusal of submission to the Roman Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him."

When all the chaff is finally blown away by the wind; what we are left with is this:

Saved by Faith; but Kept by Works.

Good luck at knowing just WHEN enough ‘works’ have been done.

Christianity: Is Jesus the promised Messiah, the Kinsman Redeemer, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, or is he not and are you expecting his appearance still?

An awful lot of folks: Of COURSE he is; but He needs a LOT of help from us; too. Heck; He even needs help from His MOTHER!

Ask the jokers on this forum.

You seem to be doing quite well without them...

I am most definitely not expecting a "messiah" who "takes away the sins of the world." Such a "messiah" is no "messiah" at all but a chrstian fantasy.

And here we have the crux of the whole matter, the centuries old dispute between Protestant "restorationists" and all the ancient liturgical churches.

Not quite...

Jude King James Version (KJV)
3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

THIS is the 'crux'.

We are told to CONTEND for the FAITH.

The FAITH that was ONCE given to the saints.

When you have a big, religious organization that says, "Wait!!! There's MORE!!!"; it sets off my ONCE GIVEN detector.

When that same, powerful organization presumes to use the word saint to mean SAINT; my OTHER radar goes off.

I'm sorry; but my mantra and Rodney King's are just a wee bit different.

All the Protestant apologetics in the world can't change the fact that Protestantism and Protestant notions of "atonement" never existed until the sixteenth century.

Could you expand this claim a bit here?

However, to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness,
just as David proclaims the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
Romans 4:5-6

It appears to me that some people have difficulty figuring out the difference between doing good works to obtain salvation, and doing good works BECAUSE of salvation.

Then there are the MILLIONS that think they HAVE to do 'good works' to KEEP their salvation!!!

...man made religions all make the reward conditional upon the man/woman working for it and deserving of it.

I know of NONE that has a SAVIOR.

I take it then that you have decided that the entire Bible is a lie?

Scripture tells us Jesus DID die for the sins of the world.

You say He didn’t.

On what basis do you make your claim?

...Come, ye blessed of my Father, ...

Jesus; can you tell us what it means to be blessed?

Matthew 22  New International Version (NIV)

The Parable of the Wedding Banquet

1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.

“Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’

“But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ 10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12 He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless.

13 “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

14 “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”

Or a desire to justify themselves.

Some people have a real problem not being control freaks and trusting someone else completely, even when it’s God.

So they think they need to *help* him some how.

The Judgment seat of Christ has already happened.

When?

Where??

These are the works. Notice the Messiah does not ask who believed in Him. Calvinism is not the criteria.

Neither is Catholicism.

Besides, your poor Bible interpretation is showing.

That's not the judgment of the saved, those who believe.

Those who are saved are already judged.

These are the words of Jesus.

John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

I believe them.

Do you?
