Why not?
Why?
If we believe in God, we must believe that the Bible is the Word of God and that it is accurate.
I Timothy 3 reviews the biblical guidelines for being an elder or Deacon. These are the pastoral leaders of the church. It reads: The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? ...
In every place, it says He or his. OK, so you could interpret that as his in the generic sense, but when it says he must be the husband of one wife, that pretty much removes all wiggle room, unless of course you’re a liberal.
Paul was also very clear that women are to remain silent in church. pretty hard to be a silent pastor, unless you’re in a deaf church and preaching with ASL.
