Prayer of Saint Augustine (SR’s hero) to the Blessed Virgin

O blessed Virgin Mary, who can worthily repay thee thy just dues of praise and thanksgiving, thou who by the wondrous assent of thy will didst rescue a fallen world? What songs of praise can our weak human nature recite in thy honor, since it is by thy intervention alone that it has found the way to restoration. Accept, then, such poor thanks as we have here to offer, though they be unequal to thy merits; and receiving our vows, obtain by thy prayers the remission of our offenses. Carry thou our prayers within the sanctuary of the heavenly audience, and bring forth from it the antidote of our reconciliation. May the sins we bring before Almighty God through thee, become pardonable through thee; may what we ask for with sure confidence, through thee be granted. Take our offering, grant us our requests, obtain pardon for what we fear, for thou art the sole hope of sinners. Through thee we hope for the remission of our sins, and in thee, O blessed Lady, is our hope of reward. Holy Mary, succour the miserable, help the fainthearted, comfort the sorrowful, pray for thy people, plead for the clergy, intercede for all women consecrated to God; may all who keep thy holy commemoration feel now thy help and protection. Be thou ever ready to assist us when we pray, and bring back to us the answers to our prayers. Make it thy continual care to pray for the people of God, thou who, blessed by God, didst merit to bear the Redeemer of the world, who liveth and reigneth, world without end. Amen.

You ought to pray this daily, SR.

Being a respecter of persons is a sin. We are not to elevate each other like that.

Only GOD is worthy of our praise and that kind of devotion.

James 2:8-11 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered him, It is written,“‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’”

Fake news. That’s not a prayer of Augustine:

http://www.preces-latinae.org/thesaurus/BVM/OBeataVM.html

So you see the spiritual danger of trusting men over Scripture? You are advising people here under false pretenses (unintended by you, I am sure - I do not question your sincerity) to issue an idolatrous prayer of an 11th Century bishop. Remember what James says, those who teach have a greater judgment coming. If you put facts out there to support specific beliefs and practices, and especially if you do so in the name of Jesus Christ, you have a high responsibility to avoid using false facts, because your false facts may lead to the severe spiritual harm of unsuspecting souls, and you will be held all the more accountable for your role in propagating error.

And yes, James’ admonition applies to all of us equally. It is a good reason to be careful to a fault when posting on the FR Religion Forum. There are consequences to these little debates that will last for all eternity. We are all obligated to make sure, to the best of our ability, those consequences are all good.

Peace,

SR

Sorry; but Mary's non-existant ASSENT never took place.

The angel flat told her what was GOING TO TAKE PLACE before she ever opened her mouth!

Luke 1:26-38  Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)

26 And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth,

27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

28 And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

29 Who having heard, was troubled at his saying, and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be.

30 And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God.

31 Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus.

32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the most High; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever.

33 And of his kingdom there shall be no end.

34 And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done, because I know not man?

35 And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shalt come upon thee, and the power of the most High shalt overshadow thee. And therefore also the Holy which shalt be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

36 And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that is called barren:

37 Because no word shalt be impossible with God.

38 And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

(shall / shalt is NOT 'asking' Mary if she'll do something for GOD)

(This ain't CONSENTING or ASSENTING)

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. (Proverbs 30:5-6)

...learn in us not to think of men above that which is written... (1 Corinthians 4:6)

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 2:5)

And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. (Matthew 28:9)

Scripture

Similitude to created beings

O BLESSED Virgin Mary, who can worthily repay thee thy just dues of praise and thanksgiving,

Whom have I in heaven but Thee? (Psalms 73:25)

He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. (Psalms 62:2)

Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised. (Psalms 113:2-3)

I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. (Psalms 69:30)

For in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving unto God. (Nehemiah 12:46)

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. (Jeremiah 7:18)

thou who by the wondrous assent of thy will didst rescue a fallen world?

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. (Isaiah 45:22)

...these be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. (Exodus 32:8)

it is by thy intervention alone that it has found the way to restoration?

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; (1 Timothy 2:5)

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. (Leviticus 10:1)

obtain by thy prayers the remission of our offenses.

In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. (Psalms 62:7-8)

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: (1 John 2:1)

And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods. (Jeremiah 19:13)

Carry thou our prayers within the sanctuary of the heavenly audience and bring forth from it the antidote of our reconciliation.

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: (Hebrews 9:24)

Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; (Hebrews 10:18-20)

And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto other gods, and provoked to anger the Lord God of his fathers. (2 Chronicles 28:25)

May the sins we bring before Almighty God through thee, become pardonable through thee

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:15-16)

And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men? (Jeremiah 44:19)

I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour. (Isaiah 43:11)

And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. (1 Kings 18:26)

Through thee we hope for the remission of our sins, and in thee, O blessed Lady, is our hope of reward

But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:24-25)

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)

Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:12)

Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows. (Jeremiah 44:25)

Make it thy continual care to pray for the people of God,

Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. (Romans 8:34)

But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes..(Jeremiah 44:17)
