Theologian: Shared Communion With Protestants Would be Blasphemy and Sacrilege

...If the Church were to change its rules on shared Eucharistic Communion it would “go against Revelation and the Magisterium”, leading Christians to “commit blasphemy and sacrilege,” an Italian theologian has warned.

Drawing on the Church’s teaching based on Sacred Scripture and Tradition, Msgr. Nicola Bux, a former consulter to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, stressed that non-Catholic Christians must have undertaken baptism and confirmation in the Catholic Church, and repented of grave sin through sacramental confession, in order to be able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.

Msgr. Bux was responding to the Register about concerns that elements of the current pontificate might be sympathetic of a form of “open Communion” proposed by the German Protestant theologian, Jürgen Moltmann.

The concerns have arisen primarily due to the Holy Father’s own comments on Holy Communion and Lutherans, his apparent support for some remarried divorcees to receive Holy Communion, and how others have used his frequently repeated maxim about the Eucharist: that it is “not a prize for the perfect, but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak.”

The debate specifically over intercommunion with Christian denominations follows recent remarks by Cardinal Walter Kasper who, in a Dec. 10 interview with Avvenire, said he hopes Pope Francis’ next declaration will open the way for intercommunion with other denominations “in special cases.”

The German theologian said shared Eucharistic communion is just a matter of time, and that the Pope’s recent participation in the Reformation commemoration in Lund has given “a new thrust” to the “ecumenical process.”

Pope Francis has often expressed his admiration for Cardinal Kasper’s theology whose thinking has significantly influenced…the priorities of this pontificate, particularly on the Eucharist.

For Moltmann, Holy Communion is “the Lord's supper, not something organized by a church or a denomination”...

Also note that even people who call themselves Catholic these days really aren’t.

I've been told that the church that Jesus started has ALWAYS been Catholic.

That means Catholics wrote THIS letter.

And today's Catholics do NOT follow their own letter.


 

Acts 15

The Council at Jerusalem
 1 Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: "Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved." 2 This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. 3 The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the believers very glad. 4 When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them.

 5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, "The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses."

 6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: "Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."

 12 The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them. 13 When they finished, James spoke up. "Brothers," he said, "listen to me. 14 Simon has described to us how God first intervened to choose a people for his name from the Gentiles. 15 The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:

 16 "'After this I will return
   and rebuild David's fallen tent.
Its ruins I will rebuild,
   and I will restore it,
17 that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
   even all the Gentiles who bear my name,
says the Lord, who does these things'
 18 things known from long ago.

 19 "It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. 21 For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath."

The Council's Letter to Gentile Believers
 22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose some of their own men and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were leaders among the believers. 23 With them they sent the following letter:

   The apostles and elders, your brothers,

   To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:

   Greetings.

 24 We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul— 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. Disagreement Between Paul and Barnabas
 36 Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing." 37 Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, 38 but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. 39 They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, 40 but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord. 41 He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

You cite one ECF as if they were in uniform agreement on this.

From what I've seen of the ECFs their only consistency is their inconsistency on the issues.

Roman catholicism's own "most comprehensive resource on Catholic teaching, history, and information ever gathered in all of human history" admits Gen 3:15 as translated in the Vulgate cannot be defended.

However, those who knew Mary the best...the disciples...never once wrote about her being immaculate. Not even John who probably knew her best. Have you not ever wondered why?

Funny; GOD of the OT had things written down a LOT!!

There you go, just like a Catholic, making another assertion instead of relying on a direct verse of scripture!

You want me to show a verse that directly states that Mary was conceived without sin, but refuse to show me a verse that directly says that Jesus commanded His Apostles to write the scriptures.

I do believe that the Gospel writers were moved by the Holy Spirit to write down their accounts of Jesus’ life, but it is by Church tradition that I know this, not by having seen it directly written as such in the sacred scriptures.

It is the same with the sinlessness of Mary which I believe in and you don’t.

(Incidentally, the Church teaches that the blessed virgin did need to be redeemed by the sacrifice of Jesus at Calvary, but that God applied the graces to her in advance of her conception.)

RB:

Your logic in asserting that the written word is far more important than tradition doesn’t hold water, and your methodology of proof is by nature of the question biased toward the written word.

Paul told his disciples to imitate him. Jesus told His disciples to follow Him. Parents and teachers are constantly reminded to give good example.

These all have to do with tradition, and by the very nature little is written in its application, for it is imitation, not reading and reciting that has its effect when speaking strictly of tradition. It is thus, when I read in depth accounts of the most holy, reverent, and like-Jesus people in history, it is the Catholic saints who the books are written about.

Finally, Saint John in the final words of his Gospel writes

“But there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written every one, the world itself, I think, would not be able to contain the books that should be written.”

But by Protestant theology if someone were to teach of the things of Jesus that didn’t get written down (such as mentioned by Saint John above), they are to be condemned.

THAT, ealgeone, is part of the shortsighted arrogance found in Protestant heresy.

There you go, just like a Catholic, making another assertion instead of relying on a direct verse of scripture!

You want me to show a verse that directly states that Mary was conceived without sin, but refuse to show me a verse that directly says that Jesus commanded His Apostles to write the scriptures.

I do believe that the Gospel writers were moved by the Holy Spirit to write down their accounts of Jesus’ life, but it is by Church tradition that I know this, not by having seen it directly written as such in the sacred scriptures.

It is the same with the sinlessness of Mary which I believe in and you don’t.

(Incidentally, the Church teaches that the blessed virgin did need to be redeemed by the sacrifice of Jesus at Calvary, but that God applied the graces to her in advance of her conception.)

You left out the continuation of the sentence John wrote.

30Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. John 20:30-31 NASB

The other things that were Jesus did were not recorded because they didn't need to be.

The catholic, by attempting to use this verse to justify their use of "tradition" as equal to the written word, engages in grave error.

Hence the importance of the written word over roman catholic "tradition".

Nope.

One of the primary reasons the NT was compiled was to combat the rise in errors and false books that were being circulated.

No doubt some of these contain some of the "traditions" claimed by catholics.

There's a reason these books were not included in the canon. They were not received by the church.
